Chapter 5

Chris: [Leading Sonia to her room, carefully pulling her bag off of her back] Sonia!

Sonia sat on the edge of the bed, wringing her hands due to the uneasiness and dismay, ignoring him.

Chris: Look at me! [Placing the tip of his fingers under her chin]. You are safe. I'm here.

Sonia: I'm between a rock and a hard place.[She started, her voice husky]. I can't tell mom anything and I can't give the book. Who knows what he could have done if George hadn't shown up on time. [Tears now building up in her eyes].

she collapsed on the bed and started to cry- quietly. Chris gently rubbed her back, his touch soothing her. He sprang up and made his way to the wide-open door.

Sonia: [Suddenly cocking her head to one side, looked at him with wistful eyes] Are you leaving?

Chris: [Glancing back] I thought you might need some time alone.

Sonia: Please stay.

Chris: [Reaching for the doorknob] Alright. Let me get you something to eat while you freshen up and change into something comfortable. [He stood still and stared at her for a while before walking out, closing the door].

Sonia slowly jumped out of bed and walked into the bathroom she stripped off her school uniform and turned the shower on. She moved to the sink to brush her teeth while waiting for the water to warm up.

Twenty minutes later, she turned the shower off, wrapped a towel around herself and dragged her feet out of the bathroom towards a chest of drawers just opposite her bed, pulled the knob handle, grabbing black underwear, a white cropped tank top and pyjama pants. She got dressed in a snappy manner.

After pushing the drawer back in, a small sealed box on the top of the desk, which was not there half an hour ago, caught her attention. She ripped it open and jumped back in shock after seeing a plastic hand covered in blood, she pulled out an envelope with a letter inside of it and slowly opened it revealing red bold letters that occupied half of the page. "IF YOU WANT TO PLAY HIDE AND SEEK, COUNT ME IN. TRUST ME, I'LL FIND YOU, NEXT TIME IT WON'T BE A PLASTIC HAND -Brain", she read.

She held the paper, on one hand, stretched out to the light switch a few feet away and flicked the light off, rushing into one of the corners and curled into a ball, she didn't even turn her head as the doorknob turned and the door was pushed open. Panic flew in as she couldn't identify the tall image standing still in the doorway. She closed her eyes and remained still, ready for whatever was about to befall her.

He walked out of the doorway, well I'd say walked but it was more of a waddle to the light switch, flicking it on, as he came in view, revealing Chris. He placed the bowl of cereal on top of the bed nightstand. Sonia seemed to have relaxed as nothing terrible had happened to her yet, but the deep furrow in her brow didn't lift until he walked up to her, placing one hand on her back just above her waist supporting her back, and the other one under her legs, as he bridal carried her.

Sonia now faced with someone that had nearly frightened her to death. she took a deep breath, mixed with Chris' cologne, as she felt the comfort of warm sheets beneath her. She wrapped her arms around Chris's neck in fear and quickly pulled away. Chris slowly pulled the paper out of her hand and read it.

Chris: [He clenched his fist, scrunched the paper up and tossed it in the bin ] Do you want to talk about it? I feel so helpless right now. You are going through the most and I can't even help you.

Sonia contemplated her hands before pulling the yellow and white covers below her chest. She stared at her hands one more time and looked up, Chris hitherto had his eyes locked on her. He badly wanted to kiss her right there and then but he thought he would be taking advantage of her weakness.

Chris: [Cupping her chin] You need to trust me. I'm not as bad as you think Sonia.

Sonia: [Stuttering, tears burned her eyes and her lower lip trembled] H-he wants me to give him the s-stupid book and I can't tell mom because... Well because... she suffers from a heart attack. Th-the doctor said she might die if she goes under any more shock.

Chris: 'Brain'? What book is he demanding from you?

Sonia: I don't know. I've never heard of any book. [Whispering, between hiccups] He's going to hurt me, Chris. He's going to hurt my family.

Chris: [Pulling her closer as she yielded to the warm, strong hug, her frame moulding against his] He would never hurt you for as long as I'm alive. Not your mom and not Malisa. Do you hear me? I'll always be here.

She nodded her head and they both watched as someone tried to turn the doorknob and push the door open. George walked in with his hands buried in his pockets. Chris didn't move or jumped off the bed because he didn't feel there was a need to hide anything from anyone and that he can stand up for himself and his feelings for Sonia. 'This boy had the audacity.

George: [Baffled] Whoah! I'm so so sorry. [Lying] I didn't know Chris would be here.

Sonia: [Giggling and wiping her tears away with the back of her hand] You knew! You butthead!

George: [Motioning his hands to them dramatically] Okay! But I didn't expect to find Chris this close.

Chris: [Clearing his throat as he leaned back, placing his hands behind his head] George, say what you want to say or get out!

George: [Pressing his ears] Jeez! Mr groom sir, you are gonna damage my eardrums. I'm just arriving. I came to see if Sonia is alright.

Sonia: [Grinning] Yeah, I'm alright now. Thank you for coming to my rescue on time.

George: Sempre! I have to get going now.

Sonia: [Shifting uncomfortably] Why don't you spend the night? It's late.

George: [His hands rested on his hips] You expect me to sleep on the couch?

Sonia: You can have Chris' room. Chris can sleep on my couch. It's big enough.

George: Sounds great. [Walking to the door] Y'all can go back to making babies, just make sure the door is locked.

Chris: [Chuckling, Throwing him a pillow, which hit the door as George closed the door on time ] Dumb ass!

Then silence... Chris finally broke it.

Chris: [Getting out of bed] I should go and get some sleep.

Sonia: [Quietly observing him] Do you want to sleep on the couch?

Chris: [Shaking his head] No.

Sonia: My bed is big enough for two people.

Chris: [Staring into her eyes before lying down next to her] Has anyone ever tell you just how beautiful you are? [His eyes moving to her soft plump lips] I want to kiss you until you can't breathe.

Sonia: What's stopping you?

That was all he needed to hear before placing his hand on her sharp jaw. His thump slowly brushing her cheek. He leaned in, their lips touching, feeling the softness of her lips. Sonia's hand made its way to his nape. Her hand brushing just below his head, the perfectly shaved hair pricking her palm while the other one rested on his shoulder. Chris' hands found her waist while their lips moved in sync.

She lifted her knees giving him a hint. Chris caught it and positioned himself between her legs. She felt his hard member pressed on her core through the fabric of her pyjama pants. A little moan escaped her lips feeling all sorts of butterflies in her stomach, just as she pulled away.

Sonia: [Catching her breath] I think we should sleep now.

Chris: [Studying her face, pushing the strands of hair away from her face] Are you okay? I didn't hurt you, did I?

Sonia: [Giggling 'this must be a habit'] No no, I'm alright.

He perked her on her forehead and cradled her closer, wrapping his arm around her.

Chris: Good night Buttercup.
