Chapter 10

  Ariel and Jero stood by the side and waved Chad off as he drove off in his uncle's car. Turns out that the man was coincidentally around on earth for a 'Business trip' .

    Whenever Ariel referred to Chad's uncle, she always used quotation marks to show that she didn't trust him one bit. Chad however soon got pissed off of her attitude and she stopped doing it. 

    "That, my friend, is good riddance to bad rubbish", Ariel said and dusted off her hands dramatically. Jeri pouted ,"Heartless woman, you can't even pretend to be sad that he's gone", he said. 

     Ariel looked at Jero like he had grown a second head for about two seconds before mocking him. "Oh Chaddington, how I wish thou art naught goneth on a voyage so far, I shall miss thee so dearly that I mayn't be able to catch sleep for a few days, do not miss me too much my Chaddington, we shall see another day,  goodbye mine heart ", She said in a dramatic tone which made the sad Jero burst into laughter.

     He raised his head ,"Chaddington, are you cra - haha-zy", he said. She rolled her eyes comically and started walking away. 

      When they got to Jero's house, Jero was hesitant to let her walk home herself, "Remember you told me that Chad followed you the last time you walked home alone, what if it's another man with ulterior motives that follows you this time... You aren't too strong, you're pampered and you always go home by bus, please don't walk alone,  just take the bus again ", Jero had said. 

        "Eureka, so you admit that Chad did have ulterior motives ", she said accusingly. Jero felt his lips twitch. 'My dear little grand aunt, Aren't you latching on to the wrong point here' , Jero asked himself. Ariel rolled her eyes ," Jero Jackson, I'm no longer the naive 13 year old I used to be Jero, I'm now 14, a grown woman, I can walk myself ", she said. 

        Jero felt his jaw drop at her absurdity. He snapped his teeth together and pulled Ariel along. "We're walking home together", he said. She struggled. "I can take care of myself Jero", she said. 

        "We're going home together", he deadpanned. Ariel pouted and kicked his leg. He didn't budge. "Fine, I'll let you walk me home this once", she said. 

        "You don't have a choice", He deadpanned again. Ariel growled. Suddenly, Jero's phone rang. He picked it up, "Hey Mom", he said. His mother said something that made his face contort into a frown. "I'm trying to walk-", he was interrupted. "Mom lis-", interrupted again. 

        After the call ended, Jero groaned and rolled his eyes to the Heavens. "I have to leave Ari, Jessica stupidly hit her leg against the fridge and I have to go get her since mom's not home", he said. Ariel smiled her reflexive smile of happiness. Jero stared for two seconds and patted her head as he shook his head. 

        "Your face is your greatest danger, don't smile like that in front of men, they could hurt you cos of it", he said. Ariel rolled her eyes, Jero was like a mother hen when it came to her. 

        She eventually made him leave. It was already nightfall. The beautiful stars illuminated the skies. She felt energy enveloping her that made her neck tingle. Autumn leaves blew over surrounding her. 

         Suddenly, she heard a sound like crashing. She hurried her steps. She then strained her ears till she couldn't hear anything again before she calmed down. She then heard a voice, "Some people just can't stay out of trouble", a deep cello like voice said. 

         Ariel clicked her tongue. The voice was rich and laid back, so she got the impression that he was well off. She became curious and tip toed to the alley behind her where she heard the voice. Then, she saw a hooded face looking straight at her. She shrieked and started running away. 

        She hadn't ran ten steps than she felt a hand press lightly on her head. She wanted to scream but didn't feel the urge to, as there was no evil intent from the person behind her. She turned around and was faced with the same hood that covered his face up to his nose which made her wonder how he could see. 

       This guy was a head taller than her and was very well built, he had long legs that were encased in a track suit trouser. His mouth was pulled into a thin firm line and his skin glowed under the moonlight, Atleast the skin under his nose did. The rest of his clothes covered his entire body. All in all, she suspected that he was in the middle of a nap before coming to the alley.

     "Be more careful and don't walk alone at night anymore", he said and turned around. She swooned inwardly, he looked so cute. Not ruthlessly handsome like Chad cute but blow your mind away puppy and/or baby cute, despite his defined jawline. "Uhm...thank you ", she said. He didn't even respond and walked away. 

      She peeked into the alley and saw a man laying unconscious on the floor, the cute boy had probably discovered the man and beat him up for her. She smiled and ran after him. She didn't expect him to stop walking and so she rammed into him. He didn't lose his balance though. 

      He turned and faced her. "What is it?", he asked in his cello voice. She became flustered. "Um, thanks for saving me ", she said. "Don't thank me, you're still a pain in the ass. Run away when you hear trouble, don't just stand there like you did with that pervert", he said in a somewhat annoyed way. 

        Ariel thought back and indeed, there only one situation where she stood like a statue, the alien case. This meant that this Adonis had been helping her for a very long time. She became overflowing with gratitude. "Still, thank you very much", she said. He stayed without moving for a split second before starting to turn away. 

        Ariel exploded, "Hey, I just said thank you, human etiquette requires that you say I'm welcome", she said as she rammed her index finger into his rock solid chest, repeatedly. It surprised her herself but it just felt natural. She already trusted that this guy wouldn't hurt her no matter what she did. 

       His lips quirked up into a small smirk that nearly disabled her anger. "I'm welcome", he said. Her left eye twitched. "Fine then say you're welcome", she said. "I'm welcome? For what? ", he asked and cocked his head to the side in a way that completely melted her anger. He was so cute. She humphed and folded her arms. "Fine then, keep acting cute, I don't need your help anymore", she said. He sighed and replied. "You're welcome", he said. 

        She brightened up and gave a smile that could melt snow. She felt his eye roll. She looked down for half a second and the next thing she knew, he was gone. She spun around and didn't see him

       Hey, didn't this happen with the green eyed guy. This was becoming puzzling. But she happily puffed up her chest and ran home. Her protector was otherworldly freakishly cute, wasn't she darn lucky. She then resolved to resume her search for the green eyed guy. 

The next day, at school:

      Ariel once again dragged her best friend all over the school. "Dude what's up, I thought you gave up on Mr Green eyes 6 months ago", Jero said annoyed. "I never gave him up, I only paused my search for him. I rekindled the search cos of the guy I met yesterday that did the same thing he did ",she said. 

     Jero looked aggrieved. "I never saw him and I'm being dragged around", he said. "Oh, I think Mr Green eyes is way too long, what other name do you propose? ", she asked. "You said his eyes were like Gamma bursts right? Let's call him b-", he was interrupted. 

       "If you say burst I will punch the hell out of your brain", Ariel said. Jero was frightened. Whenever Ariel was serious her punches could pull out teeth. He wracked his brain. "You didn't let me finish, I was gonna say we should call him by the name 'Nova'", he saved himself.   

       Ariel contemplated it and she liked it. "Nice thinking, I was really prepared to punch the hell out of your brain", she said.  

       Someone yelled in Jero's brain. "SAFE".
