The Mafia

Emilia POV

I make my way to my room and head towards the attached bathroom. Wetting a hand towel, I clean off my knuckles cursing myself for not taping them. My mind wanders back to Alessi. I can't stand how he acts so arrogant, but it makes him a lot easier to hate. He might look like the Luke I love, but he is a completely different man now.

I hear my bedroom door fly open and make my way out of the bathroom ready for the brat to throw another tantrum.

"Who are you? Who sent you, Emilia?"

His eyes are almost black and I don't think I've ever seen him so mad.

"What are you talking about?" I give him a blank stare burying my emotions.

"Are you an assassin? Who sent you to kill me? I'm not playing games so choose your words wisely."

I take a minute to reply. Is he serious? I look at his face looking for any sign that he's joking. When I see he's not, I bust out laughing. It's not my same carefree laugh, but a dark sinister one.

"Wow. You really are something. An assassin? Why would anyone want you dead anyways? Well besides me."

"Since when do you know how to fight then? And why are you killing gang members? Do you have a death wish?" He is yelling again, but I don't let him know how it affects me.

"I learned self defense. I've never killed anyone before the other day. He was going to rape me. Or kill me. It was either me or him and I promised my mom I wouldn't leave her too."

It finally registers with me that I killed someone. My hands start shaking as I recall what he just told me.

"I killed a gang member? Are people after me? And why is it bad to be seen with you?"

My questions go unanswered as he abruptly leaves the room. I let out a sad chuckle realizing that we have yet to have a conversation without one of us storming out. He used to be the easiest person to talk to. Now it seems that we can't been in the same room for longer than ten minutes.

I sit on my bed thinking. Why would he be worried about someone sending me? Who is he that he has to have so many guards and secrets? I'm going to figure out what is going on and then I'm getting the heck out of here.

I quietly make my way down and notice that the first floor is empty. I take advantage of this and make my way to the door leading down the basement. I walk carefully down the steps until I make it to the ground. The walls and floors are white and the fluorescent lights are flickering giving off an in ominous vibe. I smell blood and disinfectant making me gag. What is this place?

I jump as I hear someone screaming down the hall and the loud slam of a door. I sling open the first door I see and slide in letting the door click softly behind me. I flick the light switch on and take in my surroundings. It seems to be a warehouse with shelves full of wooden boxes. I make my way to an open one on the ground and peer in. My heart drops as I take in all the different types of guns. My breathing picks up as I frantically make my way out of the room and up the stairs. I nearly run over Dria on my way through the living room.

"You good?" She eyes me up and down questioning my disheveled appearance.

"Just fine" I pant out not meeting her eyes. I'm sure she in on whatever is going on in the basement. What normal people have a torture chamber and a stockpile of weapons in their basement? They have to be part of some gang.

"Earth to Em." I see Dria waving her hand in front of my face.

"Sorry. I don't feel to well. I'll see you later, okay?" I quickly make my way past her and head towards my room. I quickly throw my clothes into my suitcase. One of Alessi's men had brought my stuff from the hotel right after I arrived here. I didn't bother unpacking, but I still had managed to make a mess of my stuff. I quickly finish packing and pace around my room.

I need to leave. I shouldn't be here in the first place. He was the reason my life was a mess. He was the reason I had no will to live. To top it all off, he doesn't even seem fazed by it. I thought he loved me. I thought Miles and Ady were his best friends. How can he just act like they didn't exist?

I think back to the weapons I saw in the basement and wonder if they had any correlation to the men who shot Miles. I'm brought back to reality as I hear gunshots downstairs followed by yelling. Images of Miles pours into my head, but I quickly shake them off. I grab my backpack not worrying about my suitcase and make my way down the stairs as quietly as I can. When I reach the second floor I hear footsteps coming from down the stairs. I quickly dash towards Alessandrio's office shutting the door behind me. I notice his phone is on the table so I assume he is in here. I make my way over to his desk and see that his phone is still on and has messages pulled up. I couldn't help myself as I look down at it. I see images of me and threats from an unknown number. I gulp and feel my hands shaking as I read the new messages from 5 minutes ago.

"I'm outside waiting, Romero. Give up the Italian Mafia or I'm coming to get your girl."

I look at Alessandrio's message before I quickly open the window and shimmy down the gutter.

"Come and get her."

The words on the screen flood my mind as I dash out into the woods trying to get as far away as possible.

Alessandrio is in the mafia and he basically just tried to kill me. Again.
