Chapter 62

"Let them go," she growled at Lorimer, reaching for her power.

She could hear the hundreds of voices wrap themselves around her own and was shocked. It was the one power that had still eluded her. No matter how many times she had tried to pull it forth, it had always hidden in the depth of the well of magic inside her. Yet here it was.

Lorimer looked at her stunned, then took a step forward to do as she commanded. The next instant, he snapped out of the hypnotic state and shook his head to clear it.

He laughed. "Yes, that's what I'm talking about. However, I'm afraid such parlor tricks do not work on me."

It worked well enough on the beasts, however. Several of the nearest creature’s eyes rolled back until only the whites showed. They stepped forward in unison and, before Lorimer knew what they were doing, the captives were free. Severely hurt and mostly unconscious, the group hit the ground with painful thuds. Neivayka raced forward and helped the few of them that could stand.
