Chapter 101

“I would have let you both continue. However, I figured you would rather do this in private,” Pontius said, giving them both a wink.

Neivayka’s face went up in flames and pulled away. Theo, however, chuckled and kept his arm around her waist keeping her close.

“Shut up, elf-boy,” Theo poked at him good-naturedly.

“As soon as you do, wing-man,” Pontius joked back before making a face at him and running off.

Neivayka shook her head. “Boys.”

Theo chuckled and steered her down the hill into the village. There was a somber air around the abandoned buildings and walkways.

The last time she was at the village, there had been people buzzing around and conversation floating through the air everywhere. Now, it was almost a ghost town with how quiet it was. The only hint to people being present was the smoke coming out of a few of the chimneys. She looked at Theo and Pontius in disbelief, her heart squeezing so tight she wasn’t sure if she was going to be able to breathe anytime soon.
