Chapter 103

The night was eerily quiet and dark. At least that’s how it felt to Neivayka. She sat next to the doorway outside of Theo’s home, watching the deep blackness that surrounded the village, trying to spot a moving Shadow before it spotted her. An impossible task, she was sure, but for the next four hours, it was hers.

The old wooden building wasn’t exactly impenetrable, as the boarded-up windows and the new door could attest to. But the house held a special meaning to Theo. It had been given to him by his uncle before the man had passed. His uncle had known that Theo was going to embark on a long, hard, and dangerous journey to find Neivayka, or rather a way to defeat Lorimer, and had wanted to give his nephew a safe harbor. Despite how angry Neivayka was at him, she wasn’t too angry to deny him this little bit of comfort.
