Chapter 48

I leaned against the bed for a moment and took a few deep breaths to try to calm my suddenly racing heart. There was a lot to explain, a lot to do and I could only hope that everyone would keep an open mind. Knowing I no longer had a choice in the matter, I decided it was time to brave the outside world.

Instead of having to go in search of anyone I found them all waiting patiently outside the door. The moment my door opened I was bombarded by two boys that darn near knocked me over in their exuberance.

“Mommy! Mommy! Benny says you was walking!” Johnathan shouted as he hugged me as tightly as his little arms could.

“Benny?” I said curiously while raising a surprised eyebrow at Benjamin.

He gave me a sheepish look. “He couldn’t say, Benjamin. I tried to get him to call me Ben, but it always ended up as Benny, anyway.”

I shook my head at them both and continued hugging my boys.

“I missed you, Mom,” Marcus whispered so quietly.
