Chapter 81

We held a twilight vigil for the three we had downed that day. With everyone’s help, except Gerald who was still whining about the gash on his arm, we had their graves dug and the people properly buried. It was heartbreaking knowing that the world was holding fewer and fewer people these days.

We left that graveyard with a newfound sense of comradery. We had all lost someone close and we all had our own demons to fight. Real or in our heads, it is all a battle just the same.

The night fell eerily silent after all the commotion of the day. I had just put the boys down and was getting ready to crawl into the bed next to them when a light tapping came on the door. I let out a silent aggravated sound wondering if murder was still illegal as I quietly stomped to the door.

“What?!” I whispered harshly jerking it open.

Tom was on the other side of the door. He had a serious look on his face that told me he wasn’t going to be swayed by my grumpy anger.
