Yanglin unfastens the strings holding the book together as he turned to the first page. Although the book seems old, it was actually poorly written, in his own opinion. Perhaps the level of literature of this so-called Fist King Zhou Xun was limited when passing down his knowledge to the succeeding generation.
But the information jotted down in the book was precise.
Based on what was written, this world was just as realistic as the previous one. The strong reign over the weak. Cultivation was just as important as money and power.
Although he has no idea what kind of cultivation level the Village chief has achieved, the outcome was clear from how bossy is Liu Shuixian's attitude. Without a powerful father, it would be impossible for her to behave like this.
'Looks like the Spiritual Soul was the essence of cultivation in this world.' Yanglin finished the first few pages in a flash. Unlike the others that have to slowly decipher the meaning of the word written in the book, it was no different from reading a dummy guide to cultivation in Yanglin's eyes.
The following page of the book describes what Spiritual Soul is all about. If the information written here was accurate, then everyone in this world had a chance to awaken their Spiritual Soul when they turn seventeen.
What is a Spiritual Soul?
They're also known as the Spirit of the Mountain. The Spiritual Soul came along when a person is born into this world. But it takes time to slowly manifest and mature. But the extent of their power can only be realized on the day of awakening.
The Spirit of Mountain is divided into eight categories. The first five were based on Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. These five element-based Spiritual Soul was the most common awakening amongst the people.
As for the remaining three, they're a little more unique. These three were known to be the three peculiar Spiritual Souls with Poison, Blood, and Clarity as their elemental base.
There's another main reason the people in this world called the Spiritual Soul as Spirit of the Mountain. It was because they could cultivate their own resources through the Spiritual Soul. Deep within the Spiritual Soul itself was a small realm according to its element.
The Spiritual Soul can be strengthened by absorbing the natural energy in this world. In return, cultivating resources can be created according to the element base of the Spiritual Soul.
Based on the content of this book, it seems that the author awakened a Fire-Element base when he was younger. Part of the content came with some of his inheritance, such as how he cultivates and solidifies his Spiritual Soul using the natural Spiritual Energy created by the world.
But that was not all in the path of cultivation. Knowing what Spirit of Mountain you awakened is just the starting point.
The path of cultivation is divided further into seven different stages, starting with Spirit Foundation, Establishment, and Condensation.
It was separated further into the Early, Middle, Late, and Peak layers. The author, Zhou Xun, was a cultivator at the Peak of Spirit Condensation Stage when he finished compiling his experience in this book.
There's no longer anything else added at the end of the book, but the information within was precise. Finishing the book allowed Yanglin to understand better about this world and how it goes.
"Look at your servant, Xia Xuan-Xuan... He's behaving like he can understand what was written in the book. What about we get him to explain the content of the book to everyone here?" Liu Shuixian said.
Her provocation pissed Xia Xuan-Xuan a little. It was not a secret that Yanglin was an illiterate that can hardly remember ten or more words. Trying to get him to explain what he read from the book was just a straight incitement to cause trouble to them both.
"I don't see the need to do so because everyone is here on their own accord to study. Furthermore, what Yanglin was reading might not be something they're interested in, so we'll pass." Xia Xuan-Xuan politely rejected Liu Shuixian's suggestion.
But the latter seems to be unwilling to give up. The corner of Liu Shuixia's lips curved slightly before bringing up something else to mess with Xia Xuan-Xuan.
"Let's see what he's reading before we decide, shall we?" Liu Shuixian came closer to Yanglin and snatched the book from his hand.
"This is quite a good book related to cultivation. I'm sure all of us would benefit from this. Shall we get on with it?" Liu Shuixian selfishly decides without asking if Yanglin were willing to go along with her wish.
"For what reason I should make a fool out of myself?" Yanglin suddenly replied after remaining quiet from the start until now. His sharp reply was like a dagger that came straight at her heart, catching her by surprise.
"Y-You..." Liu Shuixian was at a loss of word from Yanglin's reply. On the contrary, Xia Xuan-Xuan was smiling because she finds it amusing.
'What a sharp tongue...' Xia Xuan-Xuan stares at Yanglin with a pair of affectionate eyes as this was her first time feeling Yanglin was somewhat different from before.
"Does that mean you don't understand what is in the book? You don't need to feel embarrassed if you don't. After all, not everyone is illiterate enough to understand what was written in the book." Liu Shuixian added. It seems she won't be satisfied unless Yanglin makes a fool of himself.
"How hard were the words inside the book? You should learn how to read if you find it difficult to understand. If you excuse me, I'm going to change to another book to read. Please get busy with your own thing. Thank you." Yanglin casually turned around after he took the book off from Liu Shuixian's hand.
His action caught everyone by surprise.
"You... You... Stand right there!" Liu Shuixian pointed her finger at Yanglin.
"Since you seem confident with what you've just read, what about telling us what the book is all about? If you can get at least ten words correct from the book, I'll give you ten Water Foundation Pills!" she said.
"Ten Water Foundation Pills?" Yanglin's eyes shined brightly the moment he heard what Liu Shuixian just said.
