Hogwarts Express I

I've discovered Neville is a quiet boy. He only introduced himself since it was the proper thing to do. There are only a few minutes until we leave the station, and the commotion outside has ramped up.

I look out the window and see all the kids saying their goodbyes for the year. I see students other than first years too.

"So, which family are you from?"

My gaze at the many kids outside is interrupted by Neville. Many of the students quickly rush on the Hogwarts Express, seeing the time and hearing the warning whistle.

I turn and look at Neville, portraying that I have no intention of talking about that. I've deduced he is from a wizarding family.

However, my origins are elusive to me.

"Sorry."

All the kids are loaded in and waving goodbye to their parents. As the train starts to move, I hear another knock on the compartment door. I ignore it, so Neville takes the lead.

"Come in..."

The compartment door opens, and a frilly-haired girl pokes her head in. She looks at Neville and then at me. I can see her reflection in the window.

"Do you have room for one more?"

Neville looks at me as if asking for permission. I wave for her to come in. She does and puts her things away. She sits next to Neville, seeing he's the more social one.

"I'm Hermione Granger. What's your name?"

She asks Neville, and he responds awkwardly.

"Neville..."

It seems like he has a hard time talking to the fairer gender. She turns her head to me, waiting for me to answer.

"Alexander Aevum."

She nods her head at the very brief introduction. The silence in the compartment is pleasant, but to them, it's awkward.

Neville decides to take it upon himself to make it even more awkward.

"Do you want to see my toad?"

He directs his question at Hermione, and she awkwardly smiles. He proceeds to look for it but doesn't find it where it's supposed to be. After a few more minutes into the train ride, he panics. He goes on a rant about how important his toad is.

I sigh and pull out my wand.

They both see this and recoil slightly. I enter his mind briefly and see the image of the toad and its name. Trevor, what a human-like name for an amphibian. Now that I have a clear picture of the toad, I can summon him.

"Accio."

The frog quickly leaves the hiding spot inside the compartment, and I catch it as it flies at me. I toss him his toad back.

I stare back out the window and enjoy the passing scenery of the city.

"How do you already know how to use a spell we don't learn till the fourth year?"

Well, it looks like a smart cookie is in the compartment. I look at Hermione and see how serious she is about an answer.

I put my wand in its holster and think about the answer.

"You're smart. Figure it out."

She scrunches up her nose at the response. Her arms cross, and she stares a hole through my head. I stare out the window and think about everything I get to work on at Hogwarts.
