Noise coming from the common room wakes me from my sleep. I hardly ever get woken by anyone or anything unless it's loud. I look around the room, and there are two empty beds. Harry and Ron are already downstairs, opening their presents.

At least, that's what I think they're doing. I lift myself out of bed and go to the staircase leading to the common room. I look over the edge of the railing, and the two of them are already breaking open presents.

"If you guys are planning to rip open your gifts, at least do it quietly."

Their attention turns toward the sound of my voice as they look up at me. My eyes land on Harry as his body is partially invisible. Now I'm intrigued.

"Sorry about that. Harry's never got presents before, and someone sent him an invisibility cloak."

Ron is quick to apologize as I watch the two of them. I make my way down the staircase and approach the tree. More so looking at Harry's invisibility cloak.

"I was telling him how rare invisibility cloaks are. You've got presents too."

My head spins in the direction of Ron, and he nods his head in the direction of the tree. Just as he said, I've got a present too. I pick it up, and it's a familiar feeling. As I rip the paper away, it's a book. Along with a pressed letter inside the front cover.

Before reading the letter, I open the book and read the title.

A History And Compendium On The Foulest Creature, Dementors.

Someone knows that I've been looking for a book on Dementors. Looks like I don't have to keep searching through the restricted section.

"Who gets a book for Christmas?"

As I look at Ron, there is an ever-so-slightly annoyed look on my face. That's when I clearly see what he got for Christmas. A handmade shirt from his mother. That's actually very sweet. He sees me looking and looks away, embarrassed.

As I sit down on the couch, I start peeling open the letter. It's familiar handwriting. It lacks a signature, though.

'I have noticed you searching for such a book. Beware the answers that are held within. You may find what you're looking for and more. Such a gift can be dangerous.'

Albus has done me another favor by saving me from searching for a book like this. Now I won't be losing Gryffindor any more points. McGonagall might even miss our run-ins after my attempts to break into and out of the restricted section.

"What do you plan to do with it?"

Ron and Harry continue their conversation from earlier. I immediately break open the book and start reading. No time to waste if I want to continue my progress with Summa Exitium.

An hour or so passes, and that's when Harry comes rushing back into the common room. He looks happy about something. He goes on to explain something about a mirror. One that shows him his parents. I'll admit, I'm intrigued.

The two friends allow me to come along, and we make our way through the halls with the invisibility cloak.

We enter an unused classroom, and in the corner sits a mirror. We remove the cloak, and Harry pushes Ron toward the mirror. I look at the inscription at the top of the mirror as they're looking into it.

Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi...

At first, it doesn't mean anything to me... But the longer I stare at the inscription, the more I try to figure out ways to decipher it. After a minute, it becomes obvious.

"I show not your face but your heart's desire..."

Both Ron and Harry look at me as the words leave my mouth. Confusion on their faces. I point toward the words above the mirror, and that's when they get confused.

"That's what the inscription says. It's a magical item, and based on what I just read. It shows you what your heart wants."

Harry saw his dead parents, and Ron saw various things regarding his ego. Goes to show that different things are dwelling in the hearts of the two friends.

"Want to give it a go?"

Umm...

I hadn't considered it...
