Epilogue

Lily's father, upon hearing that his daughter had returned, smiled for the first time in years and gave an order to burn down the forest. The forest was burnt down scorching that piece of land to make sure no tree ever grew there again. The night after the forest was burnt, her father passed away in his sleep. Lily's mother took the throne, but after two years she stepped down, and Lily became Queen.

Lily had found out a month after returning to the castle that she was pregnant and had decided to keep the baby. Also, as a self-given punishment for breaking their promise, she never got married or had any other children.

She never got over the pain of breaking her promise with Lyrk. From the moment she left the forest every full moon, it was as though she could hear him calling for her begging her to stay and reminding her of their promise. His voice on these nights was always clear; 'follow everywhere I go, top over mountains or valleys low. I'll give you everything you've been dreaming of Everything you want in gold, I'll even be the story you've been told, and you'll be safe under my control'. However, she no longer heard him saying she was his; instead, she heard him plead, 'just let me in'.
