The conflict between humans and mermen has spanned for hundreds of years, yet love can sprout in the most hostile of environments. Even between a cold, rigid human prince and a crafty, mischievous mermaid princess who felt an odd but overwhelming attraction to one another. Their forbidden love could be the world’s biggest blessing, or its darkest curse.
A lie. A misunderstanding. The fractured pearl of a mermaid that fell into despair. A prince that was so struck by grief that he wanted the whole world to be engulfed in darkness. Two shattered hearts. Can this love be mended when given a second chance?

Under the luminous moonlight, laying on the dense grass of the garden he had once kept only for himself, Zhen Feng felt he could finally breathe.
He had gotten the warmer half of his heart back after almost losing it and going mad. He personally reaped the heads of those who had held her captive, but the mastermind behind her abduction was still unknown.
“No matter. I will marry her and keep her by my side. If someone dares to try taking her away, they will lose their legs first.”
Interrupting his atrocious thoughts, the mermaid beside him asked somewhat nervously:
“Will you still love me even if I’ve lied to you?”
“I would love you even if the world itself came to an end.” Zhen Feng declared, frighteningly serious. His usually cold emotionless eyes were now burning with affection and uncontrollable desire.
Pleased and assured by the prince's unwavering love profession, Lin Mei smiled softly, her deep seethed anxiety dissipating at last. She wondered if she should confess the truth.
Finally able to reach a decision, she was about to reveal the secret she had been hiding from him for so long when she was suddenly but gently pushed onto the floor.
He tenderly cupped her chin in his icy hand and lightly touched her lower lip with his thumb. His pitch-black scorching eyes slowly shifted from her silver-green orbs to her rosy lips. Incapable of enduring it a second longer, he viciously took her soft lips, demanding to taste her, craving to possess her entirely.

Hi everyone! I've come back to this novel to once again try to tell the story of Zhen Feng, the disciplined and stern Crown Prince of a great human empire, and Lin Mei, a mischievous, smart and proud mermaid princess. Although very different, they are still very attracted to each other in an unusual way and end up falling in love in a world where both races are still at odds. If you like eastern-inspired fantasy romances with some drama, a few twists and a tiny bit of angst, this will be for you! I hope you can support this novel because it is the only way I will feel motivated to keep writing. Please give it a try! ;)
A beautiful tale of a callous prince and a royal mermaid, Li Mei... at a time where the humans and mermans lived at war, their love is bound to either seal the world's fate or escalate the situation of things. Truly, if this kind of story is your cup of tea, then you should totally give it a try.
This story pulls you in from the first chapter and keeps you there with its fascinating world and characters. It's a fantasy world to dive into and delight yourself in. Keep up the great work Nana_san, and I'll be looking forward to more chapters!
Li Mei is such a fascinating character! I love how the story is built on the tension between humans and merfolk! It's a conflict that can be simple, yet have many different paths to it! The writing did make me lose w bit of focus at times, but besides that this was a very enjoyable read!
If you're into the "enemies to lovers" or "soulmates" then you will find a lot to enjoy with "The Tale of a Pearl." The author successfully creates beautiful descriptions of the physically appealing lead characters, and their interactions come across as natural and flirtatious given the world. The writing has a bit more exposition than I'm used to, and I have a few questions regarding the world-building (such as why the mermen are looking to collect a weapon after that war instead of before or during it). I'm also not used to POV's that swap between characters mid-scene - however, the POV swapping does seem to be a Webnovel staple. Still, the lore surrounding the lead couple adds to their romance. The pros are clean, with a stable tense and solid grammar, allowing for a fast read. I'm curious to know where the story will go and have added: "The Tale of a Pearl" to my library. If you're looking for a quick romance to read, give it a shot. :)
