Chapter Nineteen

Grumbling under his breath, Fashade sat his aching muscles on a raffia mat. A servant had mistakenly set the barn on fire after he forgot his oil lamp in the barn and retired for the night.

He was restless and decided to have a late night walk to clear his head when he heard the bleating and lowing of the livestock from the barns where they were kept for the night to be protected from the spotted night creatures. When he saw the glimpse of a rapidly spreading fire in one of the animal shelters. He rushed to the closest barn, poured water on himself then hurried to the burning barn.

When he first reached the barn, he untied the animals and released them. He could afford to lose the barn but not the animals. His hands worked quickly on the ropes but it was too late, a calf and its mother were already engulfed in flames.
