He walked out of the lounge he was in and just as he walked past a balcony, a certain voice echoed in his ears.
"We have been together all day, How do you still have the heart to push me away? Should you be so cold to your hubby?"
Hubby?
Devon didn't have a problem with the name but with who the voice belonged too. He has heard that voice too many times of recent so how wouldn't he know who it belonged to.
He stopped and turned towards the balcony. Alan was there talking to a young lady. Half his build leaning on her and a playful yet seductive pout on his lips. Devon eyes twitched. He never thought he would see such an expression on a grown up man. He wondered if he was the only who was repulsed by the expression. The girl had her back to him so he couldn't see her face nor could he discern her expression.
From her back profile, he could not help not notice what a beauty the girl actually was. A slim figure with the appropriate amount of curves in the right places. A bit petite in size but which guy doesn't love them small. Long black hair falling to her waist, fair skin blending perfectly with the gown on her body. Somehow the figure looked familiar... actually very familiar. Was he just imagining it?
"I told you this morning. The only part of you that seems missing is your brain. There's no way I could have stolen the heart of the almighty Actor Gael" Gisele commented and tried pushing the young man off her. After several attempts she finally succeeded in peeling him off her. She turned to walk away but he caught her hand halfway.
Alan pursed his lips playfully "we shared happy moments this morning, why are you making me sad now?"
Gisele rolled her eyes and didn't bother answering that unreasonable questions. What happy moments did they share together? If she wasn't experiencing this first hand, she would never have believed that the Noble and lone wolf Gael could be this pestful and bothersome.
"Could you at least talk less when following me around?"
"Sure anything for you princess."
Devon stood there and watched the two Converse and eventually walk away in an opposite direction. Frozen by shock and anger, he did not move a limb for a while. He had seen the girl's face when she turned to leave.
Gisele!
He was not wrong after all. The figure looked familiar because it belonged to her! How could it not when it spent the whole night in his head?! To think he was here, sending a while dozen of men to scamper through the city and look for her, whereas she was also here, laughing and reminiscing lovely memories in the arms of another man. A man who turned out to be his brother!!!
The anger in his heart boiled like it was put on a 200 degree Celsius fire. He was fuming in the spot he stood, half his anger from figuring that she was enjoying herself while he searched high and low for her, the other half from seeing know she spent her time with his brother.
And hubby?
Haa! No one had ever made him as angry as he was right now. Was he thinking of breaking her legs? Well the punishment just upgraded.
He turned and marched in the direction they had left. He didn't have to look for long, he saw her standing at the drink table silently perusing the rows of glass wine. Her clingy companion was nowhere to be found, much to the pleasure of Devon. He furiously stomped towards her and yanked her hand.
Gisele was stunned by the sudden intrusion. Thankfully she was yet to pick up a glass or the room would have been filled with the sounds of glass shattering. Surprise and confusion filled her eyes but as she looked up, they both melted away, turning to pure expectations. Unknowingly a smile crept up her lips.
"Mr Devon Montero, is there something you want?" She asked casually. How was she not surprised? A part of her mind had anticipated this moment knowing that it was very unlikely that Devon Montero was not invited to this party. Seeing him in the same suit she had had a glimpse of earlier, she knew she was right after all. It really was him then.
The frown on Devon's face increased as he stared at her smiling face. No ounce of guilt or fear. It was like she wasn't even bothered with him at all. Did he treat her too lightly before to get her underestimating him like this?
"What do you think you're doing?" He scowled.
"Trying to discern which glass is more appropriate to drink from, in a party I was very much invited to" She replied half-heartedly with a shrug and also a gentle smile.
She was invited? Devon could not stop himself from scoffing to that. Apart from being his wife, she had no status of her own, so who was she that the Vice president would mind sending an invitation letter to her. Even his grandfather had not given her an invitation cause if he did, he would have told him about it. Little did he know that Old man Hugo did not see the need of given her an invitation because he knew Claudia was going to give it to her. In Devon's mind, Gisele had gotten her invitation from one of her aristos attending the party. Seeing how she was all dolled up in super expensive clothes, he couldn't be more certain than he already was. This outfit only existed in two pairs and there had never been an imitation of it. He knew this cause he had heard Chloe mention it. He even had plans of buying it for her to wear to the Autumn fashion show. Now the only remaining piece in this world was on the one on this girl's body.
He looked around the crowd, trying to identify who would likely have a romantic relationship with the lady. There were tons of eyes fixated on them. Men ogling at her and women at him. Some just stared on curiously. Amongst the drooling eyes it was hard to pinpoint who it was.
"And you say you have no ulterior motives. Sneaking out of your husband's house just to attend a party. I hope Mr Collins paid you well for that and what comes after?" He sneered.
Gisele's expression darkened a little bit. Still she maintained her smile. If not for anything for the pairs of eyes looking at her this moment, she leaned in a bit and whispered "No one runs away from Pleasure, peace of mind and a reasonable companion. Don't you think so... Dearest husband?"
Pleasure? peace of mind? Why did these ring bells in his head? And reasonable companion? Oh she couldn't be anymore direct in calling him an unreasonable person.
"You disgust me" He spat out.
His words struck a chord in her heart. How downgrading he thought of her? Would it ever be possible to see her in different light? Perhaps they would only ever tred on the wrong foot.
She pushed away the sour feeling and smiled "why am I not surprised? My mere existence riles you up"
Quietly the two people stood looking at each other. He was also touched by her words. Was he truly repulsed by her mere existence? Why did that sound heartbreaking? Should he really be bothered by the fact that he might have hurt her with his words?
"Aren't you too young for this?" He asked in a much lighter tone than before.
Gisele rose a brow and didn't know if she should laugh, infact she chuckled hysterically "I am. Especially too young to be married off and used like a shield. I didn't ask for any of this so stop trying to make it worse than it already is"
"You should have thought of that before you broke my rules again and again. Now you only have yourself to blame. I was initially going to relent with keeping you locked up but now..." His face went back to being icy "You should head back home while I'm still being nice"
"Oh and if I don't?" Gisele wasn't even in the slightest bit bothered by his threat, she casually turned and pick up a glass and took a sip from it. Her tone was taunting and so was her expression.
"Don't dare me!" Devon warned
"You shouldn't dare me either" She returned the warning. "I could be all shades of good but there's something I won't let myself be again— a pushover. I've explained and if I hadn't then I apologise now. I didn't mean to break your rules and I surely have no misconduct like you think, it's all a big misunderstanding but if you don't want to believe me then feel free to go down this path with me. I would do want I want, when I want and you like we both agreed, would have no say in my affairs. I would be your wife in name and stay out of your life while you stay out of my life. Got it?"
The man's face was unsightly. This young lady had broken many firsts with him. She was practically the first lady if not first person to threaten him to his face. He was enraged. He felt insulted by her blind courage.
