Screech!!!

I quickly put my hands in front of Lily to prevent her from falling. Ouch!! but my elbow hit my dad's seat a bit too hard.

"Dad!!!" I shouted.

"Sorry Rose. It was a deer. You both alright back there?" My father asked, glancing at me through the rear glass with worried eyes.

"Is Lily tearing up? " My mom asked anxiously from the front seat facing us.

I looked at my 2-year-old sister Lilian who was munching on my bracelet. She looked up when she heard her name and gave us all a giggle.

I sighed, relieved.

"Nope. We are alright." I smiled at my parents.

I am Rosaline Hawthorne, a high school senior, transferring right in the middle of my academic year to a town called Meredith Range in the remotest corner of America with my family. The town sounded strange and even stranger were the other things about the town.

1) To live there, needed a special pass from the government. It is like taking a passport to move to another country. So literally we were stepping into an ultra-rich neighborhood.

2) The school there was one of the best in the country. And to get there you had to live two lives. But surprisingly I got into it. And that too in the middle of the semester.

And these all were happening just because some higher-ups decided to grand my dad a promotion and get him recruited in the special police force in this rich town. And I guess the school did have some reservations for the government employees. Only an idiot would miss such a good opportunity.

My mom had it best being a fictional writer. She was very excited to move in here. According to her, these areas in America held the most valuable historic places on earth. But the scientists were too upright to meddle inside tricky history where they failed to explain things with science.

And my mum did the exact thing. She dug up long-forgotten mysterious happening in our history where science failed to explain and wrote it down in the most attractive way possible for the readers. And let me tell you our previous house had more relics than modern items.

But she was a famous writer and explorer. She was a bit too famous for my liking, especially among the teenagers. With all the mystery vlogging and life she puts in her characters, I'd be surprised if she didn't make the screaming teenagers believe that Edward Cullen existed.

But with all the craziness and busy traveling of hers, my parents were still madly in love with each other. And even though they fought time and again, it just added to their never too dull life. My dad being a softie had been there with me when mum went to her frequent missions. Not that he minded. He loved my mom enough to let her do what she liked the most. And I was too okay with it. She is a great mom and has been there for me in the most needed time.

The only thing I am sad about right now is parting with my grandma and uncle Joe back in the city. He was mom's big brother and lived single with grandma. I never knew the reason why he didn't marry. And that's why he was like a second father figure to me.

We reached our new house in a few hours. It was quite impressive for what we had in the city. A quiet neighborhood of dad's future colleagues. But I swear I did see mansions on my way here.

"Rose, you stay with Lily in the car okay? Make sure she doesn't cry. We will just check if all are good inside. And don't forget to give a call to grandma" my mom said and dragged few suitcases into the house along with dad.

I took out my phone and dialed Uncle Joe's number.

"Hey, kiddo. Did you guys arrive safely?" I could hear the noisy background and knew it was the rush hour in his restaurant. I used to go there all the time. I am surely gonna miss them so much.

"Yes, Uncle Joe and Lily and I have already finished all the cupcakes you gave us. And like always it was super delicious." I smiled looking at Lily who was busy in her world.

"I am gonna miss you both.." I could hear him sigh.

Me too.

Suddenly mum came giving us an all-clear sign. She took Lily and went into the house.

"Gotta go Uncle joe. Will call you and grandma later okay?" I said

"Take care kid."

I cut the call and got inside my new home. It was huge when compared to our flat back in the city

"Your room is up, Rose. The one at the right.

And do start the unpacking today alright?"

"Yep" I grinned looking at my dad.

My room was bigger than I imagined. And the bed was huge too. I quickly took a power nap and got down to work.

We ordered the dinner for the night as everyone was too tired to cook and went to bed early.

The constant pitter-patter of the rain on the roof slowly lulled me to a much-needed sleep.
