The Royal Academy (Part 1)

Recap: Kai have received a Title and soon to go to go to a royal magic school, The king has given him a permission to go and study with his sister.

Elizabeth will soon be a wizard which is good for their family, they don't need to work anymore and they have more time to spend learning magic.

An assassin tried to fool Kai but it didn't work saying a trash about the kingdom Kai used to lived in, although the assassin told all of what he felt when he was in the kingdom Kai stood up and never betrayed his own Kingdom.

Kai stared at the older wizard "You know him?". "Yeah" Raphael sighed, "He used to go to the academy with me, I could recognize his mana". "What happened to him?" Kai asked. "Well, in our final year of schooling, he was expelled for killing the son of a noble. His family was captured by noble's guards and executed." Raphael sighed." "He said that he wanted me to join his side, and that the king would only use me for his benefit" Kai looked at Raphael "Was he right?". Raphael scratched his chin "Well, he isn't entirely wrong about that, but he mostly fears what would happen if you were to become a fully trained royal mage." He explained. "He wanted to nip you at the bud , as the people of the west say."

They both continued to stare into the pitch black darkness of the road. "Where are we going, by the way?" Kai asked, trying to switch the topic. "The royal academy for magic is far from here, we've secured you a relatively luxurious manor in its vicinity," Raphael said, as he brought a lantern out of his bag. "Would you mind throwing a little fire in that?" he asked. Kai launched a small fireball into the lantern , lighting it up.

"Great, just hang the lantern and go to sleep, I'll keep watch" Kai listened to him, closing his eyes and going to sleep.

After what felt like a few seconds, Kai woke up refreshed. He felt the sunshine in his eyes. Shielding them, he turned his eyes towards Raphael to find him asleep.

Kai looked around. There was greenery all around him, a few farms filled with rows of corn, and a few children running around.

One of the kids saw the cart and waved towards him. Kai smiled and waved back. They continued to move until they reached the forest.

The forest was dense; the trees had budding wild fruit on them. Purple wild flowers were clustered beneath each tree. Kai was enjoying the view when suddenly the cart stopped.

"What happened?" Kai asked the driver. The driver silently pointed towards a group of hostile goblins in the distance. There were 4 normal sized goblins holding bronze daggers, and one large one, holding what looked like an iron mace. *Oh, this is gonna be a handful* Kai thought as he summoned a ball of wind "Surrender Goblins!" Kai shouted "Or you shall face your demise!". The goblins snickered. "Puny Human!" The goblin chief yelled back "You dare to stand in our path?" he turned to his subordinates "CHARGE!!!"

The 4 goblins rushed into Kai's cart, brandishing their daggers. Kai summoned a ball of fire in his other hand and combined it with the ball of wind in his first. "FLARE TORNADO!" Kai yelled, sending a spinning flaming twister towards the goblins "AAHH!" the four goblins yelled in unison as the tornado swept them up. After a few seconds, the tornado dispersed, leaving their charred remains on the ground. "PESKY ANT!" the goblin chief roared "I WILL SLAY YOU IN THE NAME OF MY FALLEN COMRADES! YOU WILL FEEL THE PAI-" he was interrupted by a fireball to his face. He fell down to the floor, screaming. Kai frowned *I didn't throw that fireball* "Bull's eye!" a high voice shouted from behind him. Kai turned around to see his sister Elizabeth jumping with excitement, her hands still smoking. "I was in the middle of something," Kai snapped at her. "Bah!" Elizabeth said " You're way too dramatic! Why didn't you just attack them?"

Kai glared at her and looked at the goblin, who put out the flames and was now charging at them. "Now watch" Kai shot a ball of water on the floor, causing the Goblin chief to slip and launch himself in the air. "Stalactite," he said, forming a shard of ice, pointing upwards. The goblin fell on the stalactite , piercing his chest.

"See! That's how you use your skills strategically," Kai smirked. "I could have done better," grumbled Elizabeth. "Oh, did something happen?" Raphael asked, yawning and rubbing his eyes.

"Took you long enough!" Elizabeth snapped at the royal mage. "We could have been killed for all you care!" "Oh come on, it was a few goblins, not really worth waking someone of my calibre for." Raphael said, smiling at the girl.

The driver made a gesture to Raphael. "Well, we need to go now, so back in your seats!" Raphael announced. Kai sat back in his seat. "How long will this ride take again?" Kai asked Raphael. "Well, three days at most" he replied, not taking his eyes off his book.

Kai sat back and waited.

3 days later

"Finally!" Kai said as he got out of the cart "Why couldn't we have just used the portal?" he asked Raphael, annoyed. "Portals can only be used by those who have a sizeable amount of mana. Your sister would be fine, but your parents….." he paused as he looked at Kai's mom and dad struggling to lift their suitcase.

Kai sighed, "yeah that makes sense,". The driver bowed to Raphael and rode away with his cart. "Does the driver ever sleep?" asked Elizabeth. "Well, he's an undead commanded by the king, so no," Raphael said. "Now, this is the place you will stay at with your family," he said as he opened a large gate. What was inside caused Kai's mother to gasp in shock. They were greeted by a huge manor. It was four stories tall, sparkling white, with chandeliers hanging from the top. There was a lush green garden surrounding it, full of tall trees.

"This seems adequate," said an unimpressed Kai, as he had already seen the king's palace. Kai's mother looked at the house with wide eyes "How are we going to clean this?" "You will have maids to assist you" Raphael assured her. "Now, as much as I'd love to give you a tour" he glanced at his watch "We need to register Kai at the academy". He summoned a portal. "Come on, Kai," he said as he walked in. Kai followed him into the portal and emerged to see the inside of what looked to be a school reception.

An old, bespectacled lady was busy writing on a piece of paper. "Ahem," Raphael coughed "Melissa, I need to register a student." "Name?" she said without looking up. "Kai," Kai answered. "Age?" "", "Grade?" "B" Raphael interrupted. "B?" Kai protested "But I defeated an A class monster!" "I know, but its procedure, only nobles get to enroll in A" Raphael explained "But cheer up. The placement exams are next week, so if you do well in them you can move up to A, or even S! " "Fine" Kai sighed. "Your classes begin tomorrow, heres the curriculum," the old lady said, dropping a bunch of books in Kai's hands.

Kai made the books float using his levitation skill, "Could I go home now?" he asked Raphael "I want to practice a bit before class". "Sure," he chuckled, opening another portal.

Kai stepped in and reached his home again. He walked upstairs and put his books down in a room.

"Now," Kai said, turning the pages of 'Intermediate Elemental magic' "Where do I start?"
