Chapter Eight: He's Back
After our classes, I went straight at the convenience store. Then I saw Gab inside, fixing her things. When she saw me, she greeted me right away. I just smiled at her.
"Why didn't your brother go to school today?" I asked that made her frowned.
"Huh? I saw him leaving in his uniform earlier.."
"Oh okay.. Thanks!"
I immediately got my phone. I can't deny the fact that I'm getting worried because of him...
I didn't know that he texted me earlier.

Hey, how's the presentation?
What the... I'm not expecting anything from him but that's it? I decided not to reply and helped Gab in cleaning the store.
After that, Gab went home already.
I just finished all my tasks here so I can go home early too. I'm so tired today...

Are you ignoring my messages, woman?
I sighed as I sat down on my bed. I don't know what should I feel.
Will I get mad at him for not coming in our presentation? Or should I get worried since he's not that type of person who'll miss a class.

Good I guess? By the way, why are you absent today?
He replied immediately.

Admit it already.
I just liked his last message. I didn't want to end up fighting with him. I started washing up so that I can go to sleep already. I need to wake up early tomorrow.
At exact 6:00 am my alarm rang. I slowly rose from my bed and stretched. I prepared my breakfast. I'll just eat cereal today since I'm not in the mood for cooking.
After preparing, I walked from my house to the university. I didn't want to disturb Mavis in fetching me everyday. Besides, the university is just 20 miles far from my home.
When I arrived at the university, some of the students are running to get inside. What's happening? For as far as I know, I'm not late.
I shrugged my shoulders and walked faster.
I saw a man sitting on a vacant chair beside mine. I don't have any seatmate though.. Is he lost? A lot of students are surrounding him.
"Hey"
Our eyes met when I looked at him.
"A-are you talking to me?" He nodded. I went closer to him. "Uh yes? Are you lost here? I-I don't have any seatmate.."
He didn't get to answer my question because the professor is already here. "Good morning class" She greeted. She looked beside me and spoke. "As you can see, we have a new guy at the back"
The guy beside me stood up as he was being called.
"His name is James Borlagdan, he had a swimming competition last week so he just arrived here today. And uh Ms. Martinez, since you're his seatmate kindly guide him in the things he had missed"
"O-oh okay..." I said.
James, my seatmate went back to his seat after. He smiled at me so I smiled back. I didn't want to be rude. As the usual, the professor made some discussions about our lesson for the day. After the discussion, she left us with a homework.
I got my notebook that has my notes so that I can give it to James. "U-uh.. This notebook contains the lessons that you have missed. Thought you might need it" I gave it to him and he accepted it right away.
"Thanks"
Did he just smiled?! Cute!
It's already our break time. Some of my classmates went at the canteen. Claire, James, Zach, and I are the left ones in the room.
Zach and James glared at each other. I saw Claire waving at me so I went near her.
"What happened between them? Why are they staring at each other?" I curiously asked.
"Hmmm? I don't know.. Come on, let's go. Mavis is already outside, waiting" She grabbed my hand as she ran to get outside.
When we got out of the room, we saw Mavis leaning on the wall. Let me guess.. she has something to talk about or say to us. She immediately put her arms in our elbow, she's standing between Claire and I.
We decided to eat at the canteen today. It's raining cats and dogs! Mavis was the only one who bought an umbrella, she's always prepared. Since we will not fit in the umbrella we decided to stay here.
"Why did the both of you arrived just now?! I waited outside for hours!" Mavis complained.
Claire hit Mavis on the nape of her neck. "Hey! It isn't our fault that the professor sent us out late. For your information, our classes have different timings!"
"Ouchy Claire, why did you do that?!" Mavis went closer and hide on my back. "Look Tine, she's bullying me again!"
Claire laughed. "Wow! You have the guts to complain about me, baby Mavis? Milk's too expensive. Stop crying!" Claire said, teasing her.
I sighed. "Hep hep hep. Stop it already!" I stopped them before it'll turn into a fight. "Let's fall in line already. I'm hungry!" They are like cats and dogs, always quarrelling!
After their very long fight we finally had a chance to eat.
"Oh by the way, I have something to say!" Tss I knew it.
"Oh what is it again?" Claire inserted. Mavis glared at her.
"Do you guys know James Borlagdan?" I looked at Claire when I heard that name. The both of us nodded in agreement.
"I heard he's back omg! He's the captain of the swimming team and he has 28 gold medals in total! There's a rumor that he and Zach we're ex-bestfriends. But because of a girl, their friendship fall apart"
I looked at the table where James is sitting. He's eating peacefully while some of his friends are talking to him. I saw Zach entering the canteen. They had an eye contact. I saw how Zach closed his hands like he's ready to punch James.
All the students at the canteen are now looking at them. Some are taking pictures, gossiping about them, and students who are holding their phone and typing something. Mavis said that there's an unofficial page in this school that the teachers didn't know. Students will be posting the happenings and gossips in this school there.
Zach is now going in James' direction. James acted like he doesn't care and still have the guts to eat his burger. James looked up when Zach is already in his front.
"Long time no see, Zach" James said, smirking.
"Long time no see, James" I can feel Zach's anger in the tone of his voice.
Now I'm curious, what's up with these two?
