Chapter 76 Eric's Daily Life

RB Chapter 76 Eric's Daily Life

(...formation was facilitated in order for the entire continent of Africa to develop economically.)

"What are you watching?" Eric asked. This was a new TV station that he had never see before. At its top right corner, it had, 'AFnews' causing him to wonder why he had never heard of it.

"This is a new TV station. Apparently, a united government has been formed. It encompasses all the cities on this continent and this new channel was created solely for the express purpose of reporting on news from the entire continent." Chloe stirred the milk and flakes mixture in her bowl while talking. Her entire attention was still on the screen.

"Is it important?" Eric didn't pay much attention. It was useless to even think about such things which he deemed useless to the current him.

"The world is changing. If we don't keep up, we will be left behind." She lamented.

It was currently 8:34am in the morning. It was the next day after the first African conference, Thursday, 9th September.

Eric sat in front of a bowl with the same contents as those in Chloe's.

"Can you at least try to cook any descent meals?" He asked as a pained expression appeared on his face when he remembered Lisa's cooking.

"I don't want to. I like my life as it is." Chloe refused in between spoonfuls.

"What is going to happen to the Masanyalaze clan headquarters and their properties?" Eric asked.

"The elder has said that the clan headquarters are going to be demolished and the land is going to he used for constructive things." Chloe said.

"You should be enjoying the glory of being a winner, bit because you are part if the ten clans, the elder is shunning you." Eric shook his head dismissively.

"I also didn't know that the elder would abandom me after winning. Even now he doesn't even meet me. If I knew this was going to happen..."

"You would still have chosen the same path. There was no other choice if you wanted to beat Baguma someday." Eric completed.

"Now I have nothing to do. I can't go out of the city because my every move is being monitored just like those other clans. Its like we are aliens in this city."

"I don't care either way. I have no intention of getting out of this house." Eric mumbled.

"You should stop wallowing in despair and move on! From now on you should live for yourself!" Chloe said seriously.

"That's easy for you to say." Eric said softly before sighing. He had promised them that he would take care of her, but he let her die. That was something that wasn't easily let go of.

Chloe wrinkled her brows. Even now Eric still hadn't divulged anything about what had led to Baguma and Elec's deaths not to mention his injuries.

"Why don't you go to a hospital so that they can print you a new arm?" She asked.

"Do you think that the hospitals would agree considering our current situation? Besides, even if its printed, I won't be able to reattach it." That last sentence was spoken in a whisper. The strange energy was still attached to his stump and scar. If any tiny accident happened, they would bleed!

"How I wish I could go outside the city." It looked like as if Chloe's gaze had surpassed the limits of this city to gaze upon the wilderness when she said that statement. A look of longing filled her eyes.

"I don't think it will get to happen in the near future." Eric's comment caused a frown to once again appear in her face.

"I am starting to regret letting you live with me."

"I am also wondering about that. Why did you bring me here? Are you by any chance after my body?" Eric asked seriously.

"What are you talking about!? O don't like scrawny boys like you!" Chloe shouted while a faint blush adorned her cheeks.

"Huh!? I was simply wondering if you were going to experiment on me!" Eric was puzzled by her reaction.

Chloe blushed deeply in embarrassment. She wanted to find a hole to crawl into right now.

'Thank God, he didn't understand.'

"I simply took you in simply because you were too pitiful." She said after recollecting herself.

"Oh! Are you really that kind?" Eric was skeptical.

"Think whatever you like. Anyway let me watch this new channel. You can go do whatever you want." She switched her attention back onto the floating holographic screen.

'What am I going to do today?' Eric wondered as the two people fell into silence.

'I should practice trying to control my brain waves...but there have been abysmal results on that front. Did I make a mistake somewhere?' He pondered.

Even when breakfast ended and he went back to his room he was still pondering. All this time that he had spent in Chloe's house had been spent coming up with ideas only for them to fail.

He sat down on his bed and laid down on it with his back. His eyes stared at the ceiling until they became unfocused and he was lulled into sleep by the warmth of the room.

-----

"Where is my mother? You said that you would protect her! Where is she?" Eric found himself facing a furious Elec.

He looked around, only to see that the damaged Masanyalaze building was behind him.

"Where is Lisa?" A deep voice caused his face to pale and his body to tremble.

When he turned around to look, he saw Baguma standing behind Elec. He started sweating.

"Lisa is...Lisa is...Lisa..."

"Spit it out!" Eric shivered when Baguma shouted at him he felt like crying. He wanted to hug them happily but what happened to Lisa was something that he blamed himself for and right now he didn't know how he was going to break the news to them.

"Where is my mother!?" Elec caught him by the collar and looked deep into his pained eyes. Fury wasall that Eric was seeing in those light blue eyes.

"I..."

"Ah!" Eric abruptly sat up.

'Where am I?' His disoriented mind took time to sort itself.

'Ah, I am living with Chloe.' His mind finally managed to sort itself.

"Another nightmare. How long am I going to keep being haunted?" A bitter smile appeared on his lips.

Sometimes he had such dreams or you could call them nightmares. It was always those two coming back and blaming him for Lisa's death.

He was tired of that but he knew it was his subconscious showing what was tormenting him.

He checked the time beside his bed at the bedside table. There was a compartment holding his phone which always rose out from inside the bedside table. It only rose out when he entered the room and slid back in when he went out.

It was convenient. Right now the new leader was ordering a batch of chips to be created which will be implanted in the head and will be containing all your personal information and were even capable of blasting images into your mind. It was something which already existed in other cities and the ten clans had blocked it from being implemented in this city. Then he won't have to carry this cumbersome smartphone which had to be left at home when he entered the wilderness!

The screen was showing that it was 10:21am. So he had only slept for a bit over one hour.

"Maybe I should go out and walk around." He stood up, went to the dresser and picked out a casual shirt and pants before heading out. He saw no one around when he entered the living room causing him to wonder whether Chloe was in her room or had gone out. Ever since Chloe had brought him back, he never went out of the building. He went out of the apartment, but never out of the building.

Before he touched the door handle to let himself out though, the door bell rang. It caused him to retract his had out of reflex.

He looked at the panel on the side and saw a man wearing a suit waiting outside.

'What could this person want!' He wondered.

"What do you want?" He asked through the panel as he knew that there were speakers on the door.

"Is Mr. Eric in? There is an important matter that need his attention." The man's voice came through the speakers on the panel.

"I am Eric. What do you need from me?" He asked still not opening the door. He was being cautious. Chloe had exhorted him to be very careful of suspicious people. Many people wanted his genetic information or to capture him for their experiments.

Chloe even told him that the elder had been interested, but after she gave him a sample of Eric's blood and seeing that he was just a had a bit more genetic material from an eel, he dropped the matter altogether.

Eric had been in trepidation when his blood had been taken. He had thought that they would discover something in the blood and take him in for experiments, but nothing special was discovered causing him to be curious about himself.

"Your presence is needed at the Black Diamond Group's headquarters." The man said after looking around vigilantly.

"Oh! Baguma did say that that plantation was owned by the Black Diamond Group." That reminded him of that place which produced carbon nano strings.
