Emmy did everything he could do to find me. He dove and came back up so many times he was beginning to make a whirlpool. But he had lost me. There was one thing he could do though. He could go find Brenton. Emmy took off back to the mines. He knew where he was from here. That is why he was so excited. He just had to tell Joy! That is why he had burst out of the water.
All he could figure is that Joy had swam off when he was acting too excited. He knew he could not find her on his own. He had to go get Brenton. Brenton was going to be mad! Emmy only could hope that Joy was not hurt in some way. He speed off to go find Brenton.
I however had not swam off as you know. I was drowning at the bottom of the lake. Luckily for me I was about to meet a lake creature. However, it might not have been so very lucky after all.
I woke up puking my brains out. Water, last month's dinner and I think a few fishes came out of me. I gasped for air between purges. That was when I felt cool hands on my neck. All of a sudden it was not so difficult to breath.
I also noticed that I was in a rather intimate embrace. The man that saved me was on top of me, and IN ME! I began to struggle and tried to get away. But I could not pull him out. His manly bit had BARB'S on it! Then he leaned down and kissed me. He kissed like a fish. Ewww!!!!!!!!! He put a whole new meaning to sucking face!!!
I tried to push him off again but his barbs were implanted good. I felt his cold hands over my ears and all of a sudden I could hear. I felt the water flow right out. He was talking to me. he had a very sultry voice. "Calm down my sweet. It is all right dear. I am here for you. I can tell you can hear me now." I nodded and tried to push him off again.
He pinned my arms down, "I am sorry for the rude awakening. My barbs will retract in a few moments. When they do, you should be able to talk again. Till then listen. Your dragon mate left you for dead at the bottom of my lake. I laid claim on you. If I had not, you would have drowned. As it was you drank half my lake. We are a matted pair now. You belong to me. This is my lake. Everything that enters it belongs to me. Only dead things leave it without my permission. Nod if you understand. Good! I decided to take you because you are beautiful. I matted with you so you can breathe under the water. You are breathing water right now. It will take some getting used to, I know. There now, my barbs are retracting. That was not so bad right?"
I felt him pull out of me. I scrambled out from underneath him. It was too dark for me. I could not see anything except his silhouette. He tried to coo at me and approach me slowly. As soon as he was in range I slapped him and kicked him in the groin. Or I should say what I thought was his groin. He clapped to rocks together and luminous rocks lit up the space.
He was green! His skin, his hair, even his mermaid tail. Wait! Mermaid tail! I felt myself going down. I fainted! The merman picked me up and carried me over to his nest in the corner. His nest looked like a large bed but maid of straw, reeds, and mud. He laid me down on it and laid down next to me. He cradled me in his arms.
I awoke the next morning to the same nightmare. Except this time, I could see what was happening. I knew this time to let him finish his job before trying to pull him out. I did not want a fight and who knew how he would react but I told him anyway. "Who do you think you are anyway? Did it ever occur to you that I might be married?"
At this point we were just waiting on the barbs. He looked down at me, "You did not fight me today. Good! No, I do not care if you were married. Your old dragon left you for dead. I claim my rights."
I swallowed a mean retort, "He was not my husband. He was my husband's cousin. We were trying to get home. He accidently almost drowned me."
He chuckled as he pulled out of me. "Make no mistake sweetheart. He did not almost do anything. He drowned you. I saved you. Now you belong to me. You best get used to it." He turned to leave and stopped. "Am I that ugly to you?"
I looked down and a wave of relief came over me. I still had both legs. That was when I finally looked at him in the face. Him and Brenton could have had the same parents. Their humanly features were nearly just alike. Except that this merman was green of course. "No, I do not find you ugly. As a matter of telling the truth, you look like my husband Brenton Fuoco-Fenice."
The merman froze! He had a look of absolute terror come across his face. Did you say Fuoco-Fenice?" Okay he was acting funny. "Yes, I am Joy Fuoco-Fenice."
"WHAT HAVE I DONE!" He began pacing or I should say swimming back and forth in a pacing manner. He was mumbling under his breath, "I can't just put her back where I found her. I matted with her. She could be pregnant. OH GOD! What if I got her pregnant! We have matted now. It is till death do us part. Wait, till death do us part!" He looked at me. I had a horrible feeling like a spider crawling up my spine. "I am sorry dear. I am afraid our relationship has to be eliminated. You see it is for survival's sake."
He started coming towards me. "Stay away from me! Your acting, um, di, different! I don't like it. I want to get out of here." He went to reach for me and I quickly jerked away. "Leave me alone!"
He gave chase following me around the room. He was trying to corner me. "Don't you want to get out of here. I am going to help you my dear. There is but one way out of my waters after I bring you in. I have already told you. You can only leave these waters if you are dead."
He grabbed to rocks and clapped them together. Now I had no light. I also knew I had no intention of dying twice in one night. I listened very closely. With each move he made I made a move. I could not see him in the dark. But I could hear him. It only helped that he was laughing manically every time he grabbed at me.
I was beginning to tire. But luckily that was when he made a mistake. He slammed into the wall after a particularly vicious attack. He of course missed, and took out the door to the room. I swam out and for my life. The sun had come up. It must have been nine or ten o'clock in the morning.
I saw Brenton on the shore. I tried to scream to him but all that came out was squalling. Brenton heard me! He got to me just in time to. I had used up my last bit of energy and had begun to sink. I passed out as Brenton gently picked me out of the water. He handed me to his friend, and his friend flew me home. The last thought that crossed my mind before I passed out, was what am I going to tell him.
