The Kensington-Gerard Detective series follows the careers of NYPD Homicide Detectives Jessie Kensington and her partner Zachary Gerard as they fight crime in the city that never sleeps. Jessie is a good detective, but is damaged with commitment issues that have a fearsome grip on her present. Gerard’s been around law all his life as seen through the eyes of his father, a hotshot attorney with a reputation for racking up not guilty verdicts on his son’s cases. That only adds to their already tenuous relationship.
Greed, betrayal, sexual tension, threats on their lives, abductions, and missing witnesses makes for an ongoing parade of cases that seem unsolvable, but the fascination of seeing the evidence mount, regardless of setbacks, the pieces of the puzzle always seem to fit into a nice neat little package. "We had a piece of flesh we'd found on the broken window of the vehicle Mrs. Sawyer had driven that was determined she'd ultimately exited from the vehicle she'd stolen, and a torn piece of fabric from her dress."


 "Can you tell the court what happened to the dress Jane Doe wore to the hospital?"


"You mean; she wore that torn dress when she left the hospital?"


"It's believed that Jane Doe left the hospital in a pair of scrubs taken from the rolling rack used by the staff."


"Then what happened to the dress? Did the hospital staff discard the dress?"


"No. Standard practice in the ER is to remove the victim's clothing and keep it in a brown paper bag, which is given to the police as evidence. That bag went missing right along with the victim."
