Anxious to see her friend, Jessie returned her attention to the investigators, her eyes searching every inch of the room when they settled on the scented candles surrounding the tub enclosure. It looked like candles on a birthday cake in every size and shape. She inhaled the sweet, lingering scent that hung overhead like a storm cloud. She remembered giving Maureen one of those, but trying to single it out now, was an impossible task.
Looking away, Jessie forced her emotions to calm down. Easier said than done, she thought. Maureen and Kevin were to be part of her wedding party in her upcoming marriage to Zach, but if she lingered on that thought too long, she was going to break down in front of everyone...something she didn't want her boss to hear about because he'd take her off the case. She forced the thought from her mind...she had work to do.
