Chapter 199: IMPORTANT DISCOVERY - PART 1

Another night of tossing and turning, and no solid proof that the mayor or Avery Johnson were involved in Maureen's murder, Jessie gave up and slipped out of bed. Trying not to wake Zach, she tiptoed to the door and tried to open it praying it wouldn't creak.

"And just where do you think you're going?" he asked sitting upright.

Jessie sighed. "I'm sorry. I tried not to wake you, but I've been tossing and turning all night desperately trying to fall asleep, but this nagging feeling that we've missed something at the crime scene is making me crazy. I have to check for myself."

Zach threw his legs over the side of the bed. "Good, I'm coming with you."

Jessie loved the idea of him tagging along but she knew he couldn't. "You can't."

"Why can't I?"

"You're on disability."

"Uh, have you forgotten I'm no longer employed by the NYPD?"

Relieved, Jessie grinned. "Then get dressed, baby. We've got work to do."

"I love the sound of that melody."
