Chapter 2

Jasper isn't sure what's happening, but he's sure this isn't the same Daniel as the one from a week ago. He honestly didn't expect anything to change, maybe Daniel would be more amicable now, he wouldn't be an ass when Jasper would try and help. But this? Daniel being nice and not telling him to fuck off is... new.

Daniel was right, everyone is staring Jasper realizes as he pushes himself through the hall, once he got off the elevator. So what though?

Jasper thinks, better than limping everywhere. He can't stop thinking about how thoughtful— "What the fuck is that?" Savannah reacts seeing her friend push himself towards her, and Pete, who

is too stunned to even have a response.

"I'm pretty sure that's not how you're supposed to ride bikes," she comes closer as he stops bending down to stare at it, "and why is it so low?"

"Its a scooter not a bike, for my knee" Jasper explains

"Can I try it?!" Pete steps forward pushing Savannah, "please it looks like fun!" "It's not a toy!" Jasper barks as Pete grabs the handle, "stop it I need it"

"Just for a second don't be selfish," Pete begs and Jasper gives in hopping off, grabbing Savannah for

support he lets go of the scooter.

Giggling like a kid Pete sits on it and pushes himself around the hall, "he's gonna break your bike" "It's not a—" Jasper looks at her and sees the grin on her face realizing she said it to mess with him.

"Where'd you get it?" Savannah asks with a curious tone and Jasper's gaze fall for a second, he's

starting to hate that they're standing so close. With his arm around her neck and hers around his waist, Jasper puts his weight on her as they stand there watching Pete disappear down the hall. "You didn't have it ten minutes ago," she adds

Gulping Jasper admits quietly, "Daniel gave it to me," Savannah's stare turns deadly at the name and Jasper quickly defends, "don't freak out Sav,"

"Don't tell me not to freak out, I don't get your weird fixation with that guy. He hits you with his car and you want to be his friend now

more than ever, it doesn't make sense." Jasper rolls his eyes as Savannah rants, she's had a lot to say the last few days about Daniel

Atkinson almost killing Jasper with his car. Killing was her word not his, no matter how much Jasper insisted he was fine, Savannah remained skeptical.

"Remember the part when I specifically asked that we not mention who did it at school?"

"How could I forget? That was the weirdest part," Savannah didn't agree one bit, if it were up to her this would be added to the long list of reasons to stay far away from Daniel.

"I already told you he's having a hard time, why should I make it harder?" "Because—"

"Hey Jasper we heard about your leg, how are you?" Some kids from the student council stop in front of them, cutting their conversation short.

"I'm good, it's not as bad as it looks."

"That's great, we got you a card, a bunch of us signed it," she hands the envelope to Jasper. Then continues, "and if you ever need someone to walk you to class, just find one of us and we'll be glad to help," the girl smiles as the kids standing around her nod in agreement.

"Thank you guys, I'll be sure to do that," he smiles back until they walk away.

Looking down at the envelope with his name on it, Jasper turns to Savannah who meets his gaze, "I don't think Pete's coming back with your bike,"

"You want to walk me to class?"

"Are you sure you wouldn't rather Daniel?" She asks as she grabs his bag from his shoulder, holding his waist tighter they start to walk.

"Never going to let this go, are you?" "Nope," Savannah shakes her head.

7 messages cursing Pete out later, the bell finally rings for lunch and Jasper is relieved. After packing he carefully stands, waiting till everyone is almost out Jasper grips the desks as he walks towards the door. Disturbed by the face waiting for him when he pulls the door open, Jasper let's out a groan.

"Even as a cripple, you're still so cute,"

"Don't call me a cripple," Jasper turns as people walk by and he grabs the hall to limp away. "Need some help," Alister steps closer as Jasper tries to get away from him

"No thanks, I have my scooter,"

"Really?" Alister looks around the limping boy then behind him, "is it invisible?"

"Fuck off, Alister." Jasper really wasn't in the mood for him but to be honest, he was struggling a little bit, he hasn't taken his pain meds since this morning so it's starting to hurt a bit.

"I'm just trying to help you for old times sake, and you look like you need it," maybe he did. Stopping Jasper turns to him and for once Alister didn't have that stupid grin, pulling his bag off his shoulder he hands it to the boy, and Alister takes it. Letting go of the wall Jasper grabs his arm pulling him closer, wrapping an arm around Alister, Jasper feels his arm go around his waist and looks at him. "Reminds you of old times, doesn't it?" Alister asks smiling and Jasper is about to shove him when he quickly says, "calm down I'm kidding, it's just a joke."

They start to walk and Alister practically carries him off the ground, and Jasper stays quiet knowing how awkward this all feels. "So who did it?" Alister asks as they walk, Jasper quietly panics at the question and Alister looks at him, as he's trying to keep his eyes forward. "How'd it happen?" The boy rephrases the question and asks again.

"I was crossing the street and my bike broke down in the middle of the crosswalk, but it wasn't my light to cross so a car hit me. But I was fine I called 911,"
