Face with the woman whose speaking some unknown that language that Alex strongly suspect to be Greek.
Alex could only frown as he formulate his response.
While Alex might not speak Greek but as a history nerd he's bound to encounter a bunch of Greek words and phrases, but reading it is one thing and speaking it is another.
Like how does one know how the words are even pronounced anyway? Like modern could hardly be the same as Ancient Greek right? Not that he knows greek in any official capacity.
Face with such a dilemma and not coming with a better way to respond, Alex could only pulls down his bevor and reply.
"Can you speak English amigo?" He asked jokingly as he's not quite sure how to respond to a bunch of kneeling sexy cosplayers speaking Greek.
As he did that the girls just stared at him wide eyed as if they couldn't possibly believe what they're seeing.
As they're doing that even though Alex know that it's high unlikely the case but he couldn't help but think for the slight chance that it did 'man…. They're taking this LARP thing way to seriously'
Not long after the leader girl then said something in an astonishment even he doesn't understand what she's saying but he could tell from the tone of her voice that she's astonished about something.
"$&:$)?/$:$/):!!!"
Alex frowns again before he decided to take off his helmet so that he can speak to them face to face and so that both sides can have a clearer understanding of things.
But the moment he took off his helmet the girls went back to staring at him wide eyed and Alex could hear one of the girls whispering something.
What the girl was whispering he has no idea as the girl didn't spoke English.
'Look girls I know that I'm handsome but do you have to stare that intently?' Alex wanted to blurt that out loud too pat his own ego, but he's not shameless enough to say that out loud.
Instead he opted to play it cool and just continues on "can you speak English?" It this without the jokes with a more serious tone as he's really in a tight spot right now.
As the seconds passed he has a growing suspicion that perhaps… just perhaps that they're not LARPers or cosplayers for that matter.
Judging by the fact that they're wearing clothing for the wrong gender pretty much ruled out that they're reenactors, as anyone who would go through great lengths of everything being historically accurate would obviously get clothing for the right gender.
Not just from the cloth their clothes are made of, cloth pouches they carried around and even the Greek sandals they worked doesn't look like some cheap crap bought online.
Anyway taking off his helmet got their attention back as the leader girl then muttered another string of incomprehensible gibberish.
"@&$$?/))/?/)/$.).).&.@/@-@-$@-&&$$(>%]<]#]^]>]]^"
Alex really through hard this time as this isn't going to get him anywhere, so he reviewed all the information the knows so far.
First, It seems that they're very respectful to him for some strange reason.
Second, they seems surprised about something when they saw his face.
Third, they seems to be speaking Greek.
The first two seems irrelevant right now so he'll focus on the Third for now.
Alex through as he has to confirm that, all the while listing up all the single Greek words he knows in his mind.
'So I first need convey to them that he doesn't speak their language' Alex thought as these girls still doesn't seem to realise that he doesn't understand them, so he searches up all the Greek words in his mind.
'If I remember correctly the Greek word of I was Mou….'
'Anthropology is a field of study around humans and the root word originated the Greek word for man, what was that word again? Antro….. Ah yes Anthropos!'
'Next is Language…. Was it lingua? No that's Latin….' Alex thought for a bit before coming eventually up with 'ah yes! logos! That's it! That's the word!'
'Now all that's left is the don't' Alex thought
So after thinking for a bit he eventually blurted out something that the girls would hear as "I ***(Alex doesn't know the Greek word for 'don't' so he used the English word instead ) human words"
'Finally!' He thought judging from their sudden looks of realisation as it seems he's finally able to convey to them that he doesn't speak their language.
With the sudden realisation the leader of the group turned her head and spoke something to her companions.
One of her companions replied something while nodding as if agreeing with whatever statement the lead girl had said.
Then they proceeded to have a short discussion about something, the while giving him occasional glances.
Eventually the settled down and the lead girl then turned her focus back to Alex.
She stared at him intently for a second before she started yammering about something, this time tho she spoke slowly and added hand gestures.
It seems that she's offering to lead to the… Polis? (Note: even tho you'll eventually know this later but the Polis is actually the Greek word for City, you know the word metroPOLIS right? )
'Wait!? The police!?' Alex internally exclaimed, while it might be kinda embarrassing to be taken to the police station like a lost child… but it sure as hell beats getting lost in an unknown forest.
While embarrassing but he also can't help but sighs in relief as for a bit there his brain was coming up with wild ideas of where he found himself in.
One of those wild ideas being that he somehow got Isekaied into another world and he had to slay a demon king or something.
Alex somehow felt relief and disappointed somehow as the idea of adventuring another world seems quite tempting, yet it also seems quite a hassle and would be quite dangerous.
Alex has read some of those Japanese novel with the idiotic MC that gets betrayed and goes on a path of vengeance.
'Fortunately I didn't get isekaied' Alex thought… although he is fairly confident that that he wouldn't be as dumb as those dumb ass MCs that's just too gutless to kill the enemy who time and time again keeps going after him yet time and time again keeps letting the enemy go!? Reading novel after novel with near identical gutless MCs really infuriates Alex, this is one of the reasons Alex prefers reading history.
History has a bunch crazy stories, in particular in the intrigues and plotting that'll put most fictions to shame.
Like how a certain minor nobility who was an artillery officer somehow became an Emperor…. During the French Revolution. Yes, one of the funny parts of the French Revolution is that it started with overthrowing the monarchy but somehow ended with an emperor.
There's also a story of a random village girl who starts claiming to have been sent by god, somehow the French despite losing a century look war placed a random village girl who is most likely insane in charge of the whole army, stranger yet she's actually started winning the war. Unfortunately her story doesn't have a happy ending as the French suddenly sold her, their only remotely competent commander out to the enemy and she eventually got burned at the stake for being insane.
There's also a bastard from Normandy that somehow became the king of England.
There's also a failed Austrian painter that can't even get into an that somehow became a neighbouring country's ruler.
Anyways, nodded to the woman's suggestions and followed her back to what Alex assumed the police station.
