Chapter 4 Things that I want

Phil was almost wasted when we finished our dinner around 9. Betts and Liam were blabbering gibberish and laughing at Phil. Katie was holding her own. I was a bit tipsy. I knew that since I could feel that my cheeks were red and my ears were starting to turn red now. I guess only Josh was the sane among us.

"I guess you will need help to put them in the car." I said to Josh. It was not a question but rather a statement.

Josh nodded his head and looked at Phil and Liam beside me.

"I will also help you," Betts said getting up from the seat, trying to appear stable on her feet. Then her phone rang. It was on the table so I picked it up before she could. I knew who it was.

"Baby," Martin said in what he must have thought to be a sexy voice from the other side of the phone.

"This is your baby's friend, Martin," I replied at him with a tease.

"Sophie, what are you doing with her phone?" He snapped at me.

"Taking care of your babe of course. Now get your ass in front of Grill & Bar, right now!" I hung up the phone.

I saw Josh looking at me, his eyes raised as if they were saying that I was mental.

"You will thank me later," I told him as I helped Phil to stand up.

"Get up you ass!" I shouted angrily at Phil who then went on to grab Liam on his side and drag him alongside. Josh followed us helping Betts and Katie.

When we reached outside the gate, people were eying us. I guess we must have looked funny with two grown up men being dragged by a skinny woman and a guy handling two girls who were both trying to flirt with him.

Whatever, I thought to myself. And I saw Martin running towards us. There he was. He must have been nearby as usual waiting for Betts to finish her plans for the day. He reached us but before he could say anything, I handed Phil to him.

"First help me get this drunk into the car," I ordered him as Phil started or hug Martin. Liam was back-hugging Phil and so I was finally free from those two punks.

"Did you really call me for this?" Martin complained as he smelled the alcohol from the two. I ignored him and turned towards Josh.

"Where's your car?" I asked him as I took Betts' hand and made her lean towards me. I didn't want Martin to complain again after seeing his girlfriend flirting with another guy when drunk.

"Are you going to get her or should I?" I asked Martin now without waiting for Josh's reply.

"Of course I will!" Martin insisted as he whined. Good, I thought to myself. I could at least have the place to myself tonight.

Betts and I were housemates. We rented a place near the University as both of us were from out of town. It was easy to commute and safe near the uni. So, we had a two bedroom unit.

"Where's your car again?" I asked Josh again.

"Just around the corner on the right," he answered as he led Katie towards his car. I followed him with Martin holding the two guys and following us.

Josh stopped near his car and helped Katie to get into the seat beside the driver. He then pulled the seat belt on and closed the door. Then he helped Martin to put the two guys in the back seat. When Martin finished helping Josh, he immediately came and took Betts' hands from mine and held her.

"Idiot!" I cursed at him.

"Will you be alright?" Josh asked me as he opened the car's door.

"I'm good, thanks," I replied. "I just live few streets away. You know their addresses, right?" He nodded. "Please take them and just dump them at their front door," I pointed at the two in the back. "But please take her home first or else her boyfriend may be very pissed," I said pointing towards Katie.

"Alight," he agreed. "See you all later. Goodnight".

He got into the car and drove away.

"Do you want me to walk you back to the house?" Martin asked me as Josh's car turned in a corner and went out of sight.

"It's alright, Martin."

"Are you sure?" He asked me again, concern was visible on his face.

"Yes! Now get lost and take care of your girl. See you," I said as I turned and walk away from him.

"See you!" He shouted from behind, "and don't forget to text when you reach home."

"Yeah, yeah…" I replied in an annoying tone. He behave like a nagging old man. I heard him turn and walk away with Betts on his hand. I looked back at the couple walking away. I guess I was a little jealous of them. Betts was my best friend and Martin was the annoying good friend that considered me as his own sister. He was a good man and I was happy that Betts had someone like him. I wish I had someone like that in my life too.

I had dated two guys before. I went out with one for about a month or so. We went to movies and dinners but it felt like we were more of buddies than dates. So instead of dating, we decided to be friends. Then the other was- I don't even know what it was. We dated for a few years when I was doing my undergrad. But it didn't really went past anything. And after dating for so many months, I don't think I even kissed him more than twice. Well, the relationship was bound to end after that. And I didn't feel too bad about it either.

But now, I was almost 24 and I still didn't have any proper relationship. Both Betts and Katie were dating. I was the only one who didn't have any dates or boyfriends. I used to have lot of guys following me before. What happened?!!

Was I losing my skills to date and flirt, I asked myself. Maybe I should start paying attention to boys around me. I wanted someone to be by my side and take care of me when I was drunk, nag me to come home, get jealous when I flirt with another guy, and then I guess I wanted to experience my first time sleeping with someone too. I didn't want the pitiful look all the other girls gave me whenever they talked about sex, just because they knew I haven't slept with anyone. I wanted my first time to be with the person I love but it was difficult to find the person I love. Where the fuck do girls find boyfriends??!!

Damn!! I kicked a can of coke on the road, taking my frustration out on it. I wanted so many things….
