Chapter 7
'Zamin'
I was born just like any other person, with all limbs intact, a healthy beating heart and a functioning brain. Nothing has ever been wrong with me…
For year's I had been a victim of domestic violence. Growing up with hardly any food. It hurt so bad having to live with the memory of my leg giving up on me. It was a very difficult thing to face…
At the time nothing made me happy, except Elizah of course.
When the sport tennis was finally made diverse, Elizah and her sister introduced it to me…and I instantly fell in love with it. I had never felt the need to push and work for something the way I wanted to during those times. The most comforting thing was having a hot meal with her parents or her handing me a tissue during my dark days...i had tried so hard to confess several times but once one is stuck in the friend zone it isn't easy to leave. We met Omar during her first national tournament, he was a judge at the event and challenged her.
I was mesmerised when she accepted and took him down being a junior black belt but I felt at ease knowing that he would be there to take care of her whenever I was gone. It hurt knowing that I couldn't do that for her. She taught me the one thing that helped me change myself and made me who I am…love will always wait for you, but your dreams won't...if only she meant that she would be waiting for me. I understand that destiny isn't something we can control but my prayers have always been filled with one wish…to have her beside me.
"Are you okay you've been silent during the entire flight, do you need anything?" she asked handing me a snack
" I'm just worried about your sister that's all. I left her during her most confusing time…"
"oDn't worry about it, she'll be fine…besides I heard her new friend is taking care of her."
"Umm," I said sighing, "your husband will be waiting for you at the airport, I'll take a taxi rather he doesn't like us being together."
"Jee."
Eliza's sister Yasmina was my agent and tennis coach. Since she returned a while back to start her family…i`m sure by now she understands that I have had the strangest feelings towards Elizah for a while now.
"Your doctor called, it's time for an upgrade by the way…"
"When are you going home?" I ask rubbing my forehead, "how long do you plan on making your parents suffer?"
"This is a personal matter and has nothing to do with you…"
"You're right it doesn't, I just thought I'd let you know that their door is always open and waiting for your return…they don't even know that your married."
"Make sure to attend the doctors' appointment, we are about to land," she said before turning to a magazine
Her selfish pride has always hurt others.

"I'm not feeling well today," I said turning towards him
"I told you not to eat that much sugar…we still have class push yourself your grading is soon."
"I'll try my best," I say grabbing a bottle of water.
For the past few days, I've been exhausted. My head has been spinning like a basketball. Not to mention the stomach cramps i`ve been having.
I arrived in class, today was my first fight. I had practised for a while since my recovery. I entered the ring and after getting a kick in the head I blacked out…I woke up in the hospital with Owais and Omar nearby.
"She's awake…" Omar said waking up Owais
"At least…I'll go call the doctor," Omar said leaving the ward
"What would you like to eat?
"Next time if you feel like you need rest don't hesitate…you almost died." He said handing me a fruit salad, "this will do for now, please take care of yourself. I'm leaving now, Omar will take over."
"Asalamuakium and jazakallah," I said smiling
"Don't thank me, thank Omar he was the one who carried you all the way here."
Omar?
Why would he of all people do something like that for me, he arrived with the doctor and a bottle of water. I was given my medication and the doctor explained what was going on. I just had a fever that's all, caused by my stress.
"Jazakallah for bringing me here on time," I said looking towards him
He looked like he hadn't been sleeping well for the past few days, "You can go home and rest I'll be fine."
"You're here because of me pushing you to go to class after you told me you weren't well. How do you expect me to leave?"
"It was in my destiny to fall ill, why blamed yourself?"
"I still have to take care of you…" he said running his fingers onto his forehead
"Do me a solid and go home, rest...i`m getting discharged tomorrow so you'll fetch me then. Besides I'll be sleeping most of the time…Owais said my parents will bring over my meals."
"But.."
"If you don't leave, I'll make a scene."
"Jee, I'm going…call me if you need anything okay."
"Oh trust me I will..."
Why the heck was he so stubborn. Now I know what Zamin had to go through dealing with my stubbornness. I was however grateful for his sincerity I never thought that he cared this much for me. Later that day I was accompanied by my mother and father, they went on about their childhood and how rebellious they were at one stage. It was the first time I experienced my parents opening up to me. The next day I was discharged by Omar and my parents who met in the hallway during the entire thing…I was surprised that my father didn't completely lose his marbles knowing that I'm friends with his enemies son…but it looked like he didn't recognise him.
I fell asleep in his car as he drove me home after picking up some healthy homemade dishes from his apartment for me.
"Don't get too used to me being nice," he said opening the car door for me
"How sad that tomorrow you'll be a devil all over again," I replied winking at him
He coughed, helping me up when suddenly my mother called him in to introduce himself to them. This I hope does not go bad.
