Chapter one

THIRST FOR VENGEANCE

ONE

Life is a mystery. Sometimes its beautiful, sometimes it sucks. We all fall at one point in life either accidentally or after being pushed. But what happens after is entirely our choice. How we get back up and dust ourselves and move on is our story to tell. Bottom line is, life must go on.

My name is Mercy. I have been through hell and back. And this is my story.

TWO YEARS AGO

"I can't believe college is over", I shouted excitedly. We had just come from exam room. The last paper to mark our 4 year old nursing course. I will finally make my dreams come true and on top of it make my parents happy. Truth be told, their struggle in paying the school fee was so tough. I worked hard mostly for their sake. Most of my friends called me a bookworm coz I was always buried in books.

The outside life was so tempting but when I remembered my parents odd jobs to make my life better I refrained from fun and got more emersed to books. Fortunately it paid off. My grades were definately good. I can brag about being the best in class.

Angie, Stella, Miriam and Joy were my closest friends. They knew things about me that nobody else in school did.

Skyline nursing school was the best in the country. And being an upcoming alumni there felt so good. I turned outside the school gate to look at the building one last time. I almost felt bad that I was going to leave its environs. Its been like home for the past 4 years so its understandable.

"Hey, are you coming or you are going to stand there like a zombie for the rest of the day?" Joys voice brought me back. The bus to our hostel was already waiting and the rest had boarded.

"Hey, bookworm, are you missing school already?" That was Miriam.

"Am sure the books will miss you," Angie laughed scornfully. I was too excited to reply. I zoned out as soon as the bus started moving. There were so many things I wanted to accomplish.

"Earth to mercy", Stella who was sitting next to me startled me.

"Girl, what are you thinking about? Penny for your thoughts?.

"Nothing, you are so nosy", I said as we got off the bus.

We proceeded to our hostel without another word. Our hostel consisted of five rooms and we shared the dining room and kitchen. "Tonight we are going out to celebrate our success in finishing college". Angie shouted.

"You are damn right girl!" Stella seconded. "I feel so thirsty for tequila and dance with hot dudes in the club" she winked at Miriam.

"Hey, bookworm ain't you going to say something? For all we know you have never set foot outside the school or hostel since you joined. And for your information we won't take no for an answer." Joy addressed me.

They were right. I only knew of school and hostel. I had never gone anywhere else. I was that kind of boring. My main goal was books and I did not disappoint anyhow. So whatever judgement that came my way was welcomed.
