Chapter Four

Life was wonderful though I never left the palace but neither did Ethan. We watched movies and played games until I couldn`t keep my eyes open. It was a week later when my happy life was interrupted. There were people running around in the palace. I walked downstairs and realized what was wrong only too quickly. Standing in the lobby were three big wolves. Ethan faced them obviously mad that they were here.

He noticed me at the top of the stairs but before he could do anything a wolf was in front of me. I looked into the eyes that now seemed familiar. Jacob. He looked worried but after staring at me for a long while his eyes relaxed. He jumped away and into another room. He returned 5 minutes later dressed in shorts. Ethan ushered me down and when I did he wrapped his arm around me. "So you see she`s still human and I plan on keeping it that way."

Jacob narrowed his eyes at Ethan and said, "You knew that I told her if she didn`t return in a week I would come here. You bastard you knew."

Ethan didn`t have time to respond because everything suddenly clicked. I stepped away from him. "That`s why you`ve been here so much. You… You jerk."

I ran off into my room slamming the door. Ugh how selfish of him. I deserve to choose who I wanted in my life. I lay on the bed lying on my stomach when I heard a knock. "Come in."

I heard the door open and then someone sat on the bed. I looked over my shoulder real quick to see who it was. "What do you want Ethan?"

I heard him sigh, "I came to apologize. I know it seems unfair but Ana right now you're my only chance of living. I need to feed from you and only you. You`re the only one who can give me children."

I sighed and then blushed at the thought of bearing his kids. "Why me?"

He turned me to face him and said, "It`s your blood. You're DNA. I didn`t choose you. Our blood matches and it`s either I try to have you fall in love with me or I can let you live a life you choose and have the guy jealous because I feed from you and need you to bear my children."

I closed my eyes knowing that he was right. I leaned close to him and sighed. "Let me go tell Jacob."

"He`s standing right outside the door waiting to talk to you."

I got up and left the room and just like he said Jacob stood outside the door. When he heard the door close he looked up from the floor. "I just wanted to make sure you were human and that he didn`t try anything to you."

I looked down at my feet and said, "Jacob, it won`t work between us. I`m the only one keeping him alive. I`m the only one that he can have kids with or feed from. His life depends on me. I wanted to try to be with you but faith chose differently."

I saw his expression change from sad to mad then hopeful. Suddenly he grabbed my shoulders and I heard an intake of breath behind me. "But after he gets a new girl then you`re free to come with me. After he finds a new girl he can feed from and who can give him kids then you can be with whoever you want. Whether it`s him or me. I just want to be with you. As a friend or as more."

I hated to see that much hope in his eyes and knowing that it wouldn`t work. I went to say something but Ethan interrupted me. "That could work but you need to understand the things that`ll happen between us. "

Jacob`s face turned red as he blushed. "Yeah trust me I know only too well what happens between a vamp and his lover."

I blushed at the term but decided to step away from Jacob so he'd release me. "Jacob." I started staring at my feet, "I don`t want to break your heart in the long run. I just want to be happy."

He smiled and said, "That`s fine by me."
