She was the most precious thing to him.
For her, he would catch the stars and steal the moon, at least he thought he would. The truth was that he couldn't even bring her to see her favourite theme park mascot. Even at the very end, his words still fell short.
Despite loathing his job, he worked day in and day out. He told himself that everything would be worth it once he saw the smile on his daughter's face when they could finally go. His work meant everything.
Until one day, it meant nothing.
The doctor said it would take a miracle for her to last another year. He did not believe in miracles, yet having been put in such a desperate situation he found himself wishing upon every star he saw in the night sky.
"If there is a god out there… Please, I beg you… make her wish come true."
And just this once, his dream came true.
"She will be happier there than she will ever be here." The doctor explained.
While not what he expected, he knew this was his last path towards redemption. For a second he questioned whether he was doing this for her or himself. He shifted his gaze towards his unconscious daughter and saw her smiling peacefully, and her expression told him everything he needed to know.
"I understand." He told the doctor firmly.
He looked towards her direction and bid one last farewell:
"Sweet dreams, my princess."
