Demon System Guide Book

As the night turned into morning, Blake continued to check on all his specs and what he found surprised him.

An hour of lovemaking with Jasmine had burned off the equivalent of red energy that he got from killing a single ghoul or living human.

It was the same 10 points of red energy.

Conversely, it had also given him ten green points, which mean that making love to her was the catalyst that actively changed his red energy into green.

This was actually a good thing because Blake had far too much red and was using up too much green to kill the ghouls and humans around him to protect himself and Jasmine.

When looked at it in that light, if he wanted to have enough energy to keep making love to her, he would have to kill off one ghoul for each love making session.

At this point, however, he had plenty enough red energy points that he would not have to worry about running out to kill off some ghoul just to be able to make love with her for an hour.

It all sounded so sordid to Blake, but he didn't make the rules. All he could do was bump and grind within the framework of the Demon System.

He checked the system for new assignment and found a new one.

«Assignment: Recover the Scepter of the Sun.»

As usual, there was no other information that gave any indication to him what exactly a Scepter of the Sun was.

He made a mental note to ask the old Dai Tien Hoang what it might be when he next met up with the old man.

For now however, there was something he needed to explore a bit more—the new level he had attained.

He had started off as Initiate but had quickly turned into Novice when he killed his first man.

He had attained Apprentice Level after receiving the Spirit Skull and then getting chased into the jungle where he had slayed the dozen that had come after him.

There had been a congratulatory message that beamed into his consciousness alerting him of the new level, but Blake had been too busy trying to fight off the ghouls to notice it.

And now that he had attained the system quest, Flower of Dai Tien, it had pushed him into the next level.

He looked over the final four levels he still needed to attain before he could escape this place..

Master Overlord

Exalted Overlord

Legendary Overlord

Transcended

Blake had barely hit Overlord Level 1. Above where he was currently, there was Master Overlord, Exalted Overlord, and Legendary Overlord.

That was four entire levels before the final Transcended level could be reached.

He had no doubt that it would take longer and longer to move onto the next successive levels, and each quest that brings him the huge points would be harder and harder to fulfill.

For a moment he was filled with self-doubt and insecurities. Who the hell did he think he was? Just some small two-bit jazz musician living in a shared flat with another guy.

What made him think he could do anything more than what he had already been able to do? The fact that he even got to this point was more than what he had ever hoped for.

But then the thought struck him like a lightning bolt.

The Overlord Anh Hai that he thought was so powerful and scary amazing had been someone Blake himself had deposed and sent into the underground seven-hundred years ago.

It had taken Anh Hai seven-hundred years to get revenge for that one karmic act.

Blake's amber eyes shone in the pale moonlight. He wasn't a small two-bit anything. He had been far more than a mere jazz bassist seven hundred years ago.

He had been a King!

Blake pumped his fists into the heavens above, challenging the Universe.

Bring it on!

==========

Morning came with yet another raucous cry of dozens of roosters that were kept all over the countryside.

Anh Hai was already up and sitting outside on the veranda of the coffee shop below the hotel he was staying at.

His white shirt was rolled up at the sleeves in a grudging nod against the early morning warmth and his collar and two top buttons were left undone in acknowledgement of the heat that was to come.

He took a puff of his cigarette and stared out into the street that ran in front of the hotel as his mind continued to ruminate over the events of the day before.

It was starting to get more and more crowded with cars and motorbikes as people were starting their day and getting to their jobs.

They all seemed to be unaware of all the lives that they had lived up to this point in time. Without the ability to return to previous lives, they were doomed to continue making the same mistakes over and over again.

The learning curve was so steep, and mistakes were so grievous and rampant that it was amazing there was any possible forward movement at all.

This was due to a very big oversight that had occurred some time in the development of humankind. They lost the ability to automatically download the System into their soul's memory banks.

The Demon System was basically a primer guide book to assist people as they went through their lives on Earth.

Without a guidebook, people got lost. They had no idea what they were supposed to be doing on Earth, and with that lack of guidance, it took them forever to figure out what they were supposed to do.

Anh Hai himself hadn't been able to get the system until this lifespan, but he had taken advantage of the knowledge to quickly move up the ranks.

He wasn't exactly sure what it was that the System was trying to teach him, but at the very least he wasn't walking around completely clueless as most other people around him.

There had been exactly six lives after his death as King of Champa. Anh Hai had managed to return to those six past lives and recover his memories. Armed with foresight and hindsight, he had even managed to right some wrongs.

None of the six subsequent lives were very eventful. He merely lived alongside people with whom he did not have deep meaningful connections. It was as if he was simply returning to this existence to await for those very important people.

Blake. Jasmine. Tien Ha.

These were the people who had finally popped back into this existence, giving him the chance to be able to interact with them.

He had finally been able to extract his revenge on Blake and the men around him.

The feeling of vengeance was mild and hollow.

After all these years, it hardly mattered any more, but he had kept his focus razor sharp all this time just to exact his revenge. He wanted to revel in it for a bit longer.

Just a bit longer.
