Chapter 67: A Safe Haven

When Tanya finally woke up, she felt worse. Every part of her body was throbbing. With every movement, no matter how minute, her body protested intensely. So she stopped fidgeting.

Confused, she laid back. The turmoil was still alive in her mind. She was drenched in sweat and the relentless pain was gnawing at her body. So much so that tears spilled uncontrollably through her eyes; it mixed with her already sticky hair.

Someone wiped her face with a cool cloth, and for the first time she realised she wasn’t alone. Feeling too drowsy, she enjoyed the soft touch without opening her eyes. It had a wonderful calming effect on her, but yet she couldn’t stop the tears or the shaking. She knew she experienced shock.

“Just rest, hartjie,” she recognized Edna’s soothing voice, and pressed a straw between her lips. With painstaking long sips, she welcomed the wetness running down her parched throat.
