Part 3: Chapter 54: Monday morning came too quick

12 August 2019

The image in the small mirror reflected a professional person whose life was in order, back to Sonia. She pinned her hair in a French roll; her curly strands enclosed an oval face. Anna's kindness blessed her with a haircut and facial over the weekend. The makeup brush covered the scars impeccably. No trace of her three-month turmoil could be seen.

The first time she saw herself, she felt ashamed. Time left its marks, and she had looked much older than her years. Dehydration, sun, malnutrition and stress could only heal with a healthy lifestyle.

She followed the contours of the small golden emblem which showed her occupation on the breast pocket, another pin with the lamp which she received on graduation day next to it. Right in the middle of the uniform the red cross insignia stood out, her name tagged on the right. She was ready to tackle the day.
