Part 3: Chapter 70: A blossoming love

Basecamp, Iraq.

Lee Ann was on her way back to her room. Her shift ended four hours ago, but they were swamped and she stayed. To work with a co-student after all the years, was the highlight. Many had married and left the Red Cross to pursue a family. Only two remained of the original group. She remembered Sonia Main quite fondly.

Sonia had changed from a terrified little girl to a mature woman. Her managerial skills laced with precision and care. She was reminded of the Matron back in Pretoria. She had the same dedication to her staff and patients and well loved.

Sonia was a silent and strong woman. Back then she never mingled with the group, but Lee Ann remained close to her, protective. When the other girls spoke nastily about her, she defended her. Although never close friends, they connected.

Her dedication had paid off. She was an inspiration and comfort for most. Now they were colleagues in a military basecamp off all places.
