CHAPTER TWO

Lina felt a pang of hurt as she saw her mate walk away from her as if she didn't exist. She didn't have to question whether he noticed that they were mates or not because she caught the flicker in his eyes that confirmed it for her. If she felt it then there was no way that he didn't.

Looking down on the floor she tried to hide her disappointment as fast as her heart could recover and the lifted her head a few seconds after with all the emotions wiped out of her face, at least as much as she could hide

"What do want with me?" She asked with a scowl on her face.

The three guys that were left behind with her all looked a bit scary to her but the one in particular was dripping venom and she could see a vein showing on his forehead with every word she spoke. He didn't like her much.

"You have the decency  to ask that after everything you did? Do you have no morals?" Lina could tell that the man was angry and his friends seemed to have similar feelings and that just got her more confused. She didn't know these people much less do something to them.

"Sorry but it wasn't me who pulled on your fur" she said with a small laugh trying to lighten the mood but she sounded more nervous than she tried to show and that must have came out as if she was guilty of everything she was being accused of even though she didn't know what it was. Worst place to sound funny.

Moving a few steps closer to her which made her even more nervous as she moved back a little trying to get away from him only to come against the wall, he crouched down to her level as he looked her in the eye and said "If you don't want to talk while l'm still being nice then l hope you do after a little," he paused as if thinking about it and with a cynical smile that just got wider by the second said "persuasion"

Lina didn't like the sound of that even a bit and even worse she didn't like what she saw coming and the smile on the guy's face. He looked like he had lost his senses.

Reed didn't want to admit it but it was the truth. He had run.

One look into her grey eyes and he had lost all sense of movement, he didn't know what to do. Of all the books he had read, what his father had foretold him, the scenarios that had gone through his head, he didn't think he was ever going to be in a situation like that.

When he had gained back his ability to move, he was immediately drown back by those eyes that were challenging him, waiting to see what he was going to do with a small smile on her face he had instead embarrassed himself and let his legs carry him out of the dungeons. Fast.

He had run from his mate.

He just couldn't believe himself. He had waited years for the moment he was ever going to meet his soulmate and the first impression he had made of himself was to act like a coward. Aargh he groaned to himself as he ran his hands through his hair for the countless time since he came to hide in his office.

This was definitely not what he had envisioned their first meeting was going to be like. At least he did experience the fast beating of his heart when he looked into her eyes, the small smile she gave him that had him wanting to see a countless more of them. Even though the one he got wasn't a pleasant one, he was sure from the laugh line on her eyes and mouth that she smiled a look and there was no doubt in his heart that she smiled beautifully.

"So stupid. What am l even doing here?" He asked himself as he abruptly turned to his office door, heading for the dungeons.

As soon as he took the fast step leading down the dungeon basement he heard an ear piercing scream that had him feeling like there was a dagger that was being pushed through his heart.

He didn't have to stay another moment to listen to who it might be. He already knew.

Flying through the steps, on a limping leg he felt like it was ages before he got there.

"What in the goddess is going on here?" He asked in panic as he looked at his mate who was now drenched in blood and from what little he could make out, a bloody swollen eye.

"She wasn't giving us answers, so we had to force them out of her"

"By torturing her?" He yelled at Stan's face who still maintained a statue of indifference.

"What do you suppose we do Reed? Ask her nicely and hope she tells us after she gets tired of our politeness?." Stan was being rude as well as losing his patience but that was his job as the head warrior. He had to maintain a clear head without any emotion when it came to the pack's safety, a job his Alpha was more that exceptional at but at that moment, Stan sensed that the Alpha was letting his emotions take over for reasons he wasn't aware of.

"She's only human, how is she a threat to us, she might not know anything" Reed said with a growl.

"A human who's running around with rouges and witches, who attacked us two days ago. If you have forgotten then good for you but most of us haven't. The ones that lost their loved ones haven't and they demand answers and that is what we are getting for them. Human or not she knows something"

Reed hadn't forgotten anything. He more than anyone at the pack remembers each and every one of their faces, their pain as they took their last breath, as he felt their bond break, drifting from them. He felt it all, even ten times more than the rest of them and he thinks he forgot it all?.

He hadn't forgotten them and the fact that they had his mate in chains, their Luna but he didn't know how to let it out. The pack was already angry at the rouges and having someone to throw their anger at was what everyone wanted. He wasn't going to be able to set her free without facing some backlash from everyone. As a king he had to set an example.

"Call the council"

Stan snorted at that and Reed could already contemplate the thoughts that were running through his head as he turned his head to the side as if to hide his laugh "What for? To set the only lead we have free? We both know they won't agree to any of that" he said with a challenge

"I think you forget that you are talking to your Alpha" challenged Reed back as he stood taller.

Stan was a strong warrior, one of the best in the pack but no matter what, he could never be as strong as the alpha, king or not and just like every wolve below the alpha he had to submit to the Alpha command and that's what he did.

He stepped back with his head held low as Reed moved towards his mate.

His mate winced and shuddered when he lifted her up into his arms. He could swear he felt the pain she was feeling at that moment however that thought quickly vanished as fast as it came when he saw her bruised face that had a busted lip and forehead that had blood slowly dripping down her face.

The pang on his heart at the site of her was probably nothing compared to the pain she was feeling.

Walking up the stairs to the main level then up to his room, he got a lot of questioning looks thrown his way, all wanting to know who the small human in his arms was but all they got was a growl from the red faced Alpha.

He did not want anyone looking at his mate especially at the state she was in.

He couldn't help to think he had a lot of explaining and apologizing ahead of him
