“Push Kat push!” Mel screams eagerly. Her eyes widen to see what’s coming ahead.
“I’m trying!” Kat replies shortly as her forehead starts to sweat due to the increase of heat and tension in the room.
“Harder! HARDER KAT!”
“KAT! HURRY IT’S COMING!”
“KATHERINE! PUSH IT!”
“KATHERINE! KATHERINE!” shouts Mel out of her lungs.
“I KNOW MELANIE, I’M TRYING!” Kat yells back to her friend.
“KATHERINE IT’S COMING!!! AHHHHH!”
Mel slams her hand on the arcade button as both of them have been eaten by the zombie.
“HOLY COW! WE ALMOST WON BUT THANKS TO YOUR NOOB ASS WE SUDDENLY LOST” she breaths heavily while bawling on Kat.
“IT’S JUST A GAME DUMMY, STOP YELLING!”
“OH, HOW ABOUT YOU STOP YELLING FIRST?”
“Okay fine!” Kat exclaims as she is lowering her voice.
“Fine!”
And they both fall into silence.
Looking into each other’s eyes.
From the eyes, their gaze goes down to the nose, then it goes to the lips.
Kat stares into Mel’s slightly parted lips that are coated thinly with natural color lipstick. She scoffs in silence as she lessens the gap between their face. Melanie who is dazed suddenly feels like her whole body has been paralyzed. This is the first time someone has ever been so close to her.
“You got spinach on your teeth, dumbass” she whispers while pointing Mel onto her teeth.
Mel snapped out of her sudden shock. Though it is still vague on what was that feeling earlier, she decides to shrug it off.
“What a way to tell your friend that she has spinach on her teeth,” mumbles Mel in faint as she checks on her look using the phone's camera.
“Mel, let’s play this!” Kat suddenly shouts from afar excitedly.
Her hands are actively pointing towards a mini air hockey table. Seeing the table pointed by Kat, Melanie widens her eyeballs.
“Oh, no you didn’t!” Mel rushes excitedly towards it.
“This is amazing”
“You will regret saying that soon,” says Mel as she is getting ready into her position.
“OH! YOU BET MELANIE, I WILL NOT LOSE THIS TIME” the red girl officially declares a war between them as she takes the opposite pluck.
“Neither do I, the all-time champion of air hockey,” Mel mumbles, loud enough only for both of them to hear, follows with a sly smirk on her face.
The word ‘champion’ that comes out from Melanie’s mouth has Kat’s eyes turned fierce.
“I. AM. THE. CHAMPION.” she says with gritted teeth.
As she sees the competitive side of her red friend, the smirk is disappearing, replaced by a hard rock expression, showing how determined they are to win against each other.
“I, AM THE CHAMPION” Mel replies back, not wanting to lose.
She fixes her gaze into Kat’s gaze and they both won’t blink, supposed that neither of them wants to retreat the title.
“I AM THE CHAMPION!” Kat shouts from the opposite side of the mini table.
“NO, I AM THE CHAMPION!!!” Mel lets out a louder shriek to beat Kat’s enthusiasm.
“I! AM! THE! CHAMPION!!!” the latter roars as loud as she can.
Suddenly, the whole arcade room turns into a graveyard.
All silence.
Countless pairs of eyes are staring at the air hockey table as suddenly a massive roar beats all the noise in the room.
Even crying babies have stopped and are staring at two individuals that are hard as a rock at each side of the table.
“What is happening?” Kat whispers under her breath as she can feel tons of eyes are staring at them.
“I just want to run away right now,” the brunette girl mutters back with her face starts to redden.
“Don’t leave me alone,”
“I wish we didn’t know each other,” exclaims Mel in embarrassment.
They both continue to whisper towards each other as they are still in the spotlight.
“What should we do?!” Kat starts to panic.
She can’t handle those starry judgy eyes anymore.
“On the count of one, two, three, we act as nothing happened!” Mel gives an idea that left Kat into confusion.
“Wait, how do we-”
“Three!” Melanie cuts of Katherine’s question as she can’t stand being stared at anymore.
“Oh, did the storm just rumble? God, Thor must be so mad right now ha ha ha ha,” Mel fakes a laugh as her leg walks away slowly.
The red girl is quivering seeing how awkward Melanie sounds right now. However, there are no other options!
“HA HA HA YEAH RIGHT? HE MUST BE KICKING LOKI’S ASS TO CREATE A STORM THAT LOUD,” supports Kat awkwardly while working so hard to walk away.
“Got to do the laundry before the storm calls out the rain!” with that, Melanie grab Kat’s arm and sprint their way out of the arcade zone.
When they are at least on another level of the mall, Mel lets go of Kat’s wrist as she pants heavily trying to catch her breath.
“I thought you were going to leave me,” Kat says in between her breath. Her chest goes up and down real fast, demanding more oxygen to be taken.
They both walk up slowly until they reach a bench for them to sit and grasping their breath properly.
“I was about to leave you when suddenly it hits me that it's dinner time and I didn’t bring my card, meanwhile my cash are all out at the arcade,” Mel explains innocently as her vital are slowly back normal.
“Son of a-” Kat stutters in disbelief.
“You have to buy me dinner,” Mel beams a smile towards Katherine that still having her jaw drops in awe.
Katherine grunts using her deep throaty voice.
It’s not like she is stingy, but the way Melanie says it innocently, makes her blood boils. As if she didn’t know that this brunette girl left her card on purpose just to make her buy their dinner.
“I fuckin hate you Melanie ‘Einstein but stupid’ Harris,” she grits her teeth in annoyance.
“I love you too my beloved Katherine,” says the brunette as she throws the latter winks and flying kisses to annoy her even more.
And that’s it, Katherine’s mind begins to work on finding revenge to knock Miss Harris out.
Where did it all goes wrong?
