The Secret Vault

Many years ago Dreary was the most feared villain in Quark City. Together with his minions, he was causing panic and havoc taking down any who opposed him. That was until the Dynamic Defenders appeared and fiercely fought him, defeating him time after time. Tired of defeat, Dreary decided to break into the Interstellar United Worlds (I.U.W) security vaults in search of plans to build Secret Super Weapons of Mass Destruction that might be able to defeat the Dynamic Defenders once and for all.

They were causing panic and havoc taking down all the security teams sent there, as they clean off all the documents inside. As they were about to leave something had caught Dreary’s eye. A single black file mark with a white X. It seem of no importance compared with all the other documents which filled the area but for some odd reason the villain decided to grab it. Back at the secret lair after celebrating a successful heist, Dreary in his laboratory opens the secret letter.

As soon as he did this the X on the envelope began to glow a dark red.

The title caught his eye. It wasn’t written in words but was a picture, of a man putting his finger to his lips. He turned to the second document behind. To his horror, it was his own picture. It had been a trap all the while. Before he could react before all of the heck turns lose. Throughout his experience, he had only been thwarted by heroes nothing less. The police and army were surprisingly incompetent when it came to facing him.

But this time it was different. A swarm of enforcers he had never seen before descended onto his secret base completely undetected. Something not even any of his many heroic nemeses would be able to do. Before he could even activate his base defense, the invading squad had executed all his henchmen in the most brutal fashion. He thought it was the end when they dragged him to the middle of the hallway. Instead of putting a bullet into his brain, that was where he met “him”. The Leader. The figure is seated on a strange-looking contraption that makes him have the appearance of a giant flea.

“Good evening, Dr Dreary. I have an offer for you. One that I hope you do not decline. We are in need of your skills. Join us, and you will see that an alliance with us will prove beneficiary,”

Despite his fear Dr Dreary manage to regain his villainous composure.

“Well, that is a tempting offer. But do tell, why didn’t you just ask me properly instead of storming my lair, and laying waste to my hired help?”

The answer came almost like a hiss.

“To help you of course. Why, we did you a favour, getting rid of unwanted rubbish you kept. Incompetence is a disease, which you must nip at the bud,” the figure motion to what had been Dreary’s personal guards.

“Well, I do appreciate your favour. Good help is really hard to find nowadays. By the way let’s say, in case I refuse your offer, would I be free to go?” Dr Dreary said carefully, as he accessed the situation around him.

“Dreary I thought you looked very highly on yourself. You wouldn’t think of yourself as rubbish would you?” the Leader said looking down at the slain guards.

Dreary got the hint. It wasn’t really an offer after all.

“Well, then where do I sign up?” the supervillain said with fake enthusiasm.

After that day Dreary realised he had opened the Pandora’s box. The things he would be asked to do, begin to chip away the sanity at his already deranged mind. He also knew somewhere in the back of his head, that once he had fulfilled their request he would be disposed of like his henchmen, villain or not. If it was one thing he learned about working with those who controlled the Silencers was that they did not discriminate between heroes or villains. Everything that was a threat to their employers was to be eliminated. And he who now learned their secrets was going to be a very big threat.

But if he was going down, he would be taking them with him. He would reveal to the world everything he knew about them, and the research he had made. In desperation, he had orchestrated his own capture. He thought he would be safe in the hands of the authorities. How wrong he had been. His current plan had caused him to be in this predicament. Yet Dreary recalled that he had safely hidden all the secrets of his experiments in his supercomputer. If anything was to happen to him they would be instantly be sent to those he could trust. That was his backup plan. Perhaps with this ace in a hole, he would be able to negotiate with the Silencers. Before he could even project his thoughts the overwhelming nightmarish sound began bursting into his head.

“There is no use bargaining with us Dreary. I have read through your thoughts as easily as looking through glass. Deactivate the computer and tell us where is the Key. You will not be harmed,”

Dreary realized this was not true.

Dreary realized this was not going to be honored. He was a villain himself. He knew too much about them and had a backup plan.

“You know, in the event of my death, my supercomputer will send out the secret documents on your dealings to all the people I have designated to. If I am going down, I’ll also bring all of you with me.” Dreary gave a slight sneer.

Using all of his remaining strength and training, he forced himself to block the monstrous thoughts which were engulfing his mind.

The last telepathic message was “You’ll regret this, Dreary!”

He tried to make a deal with the Silencer in front of him.

“Wait! I can give you money if that’s what they have paid you,” he said with effortless charm.

His assassin’s reply was a knee to the side. He felt the cold rush coming from his side.
