XXIII: The dark road ahead Part I

As the time for my departure approached, things became more hectic in the palace. Beginning with prince Wu Fuchai, who came to see me every day, even if my agenda was already full.

‘I wonder if this is how Mu felt in the palace with that one girl that incessantly followed him.’ I remembered very little of then, and even less of what he had shared about his life in the palace, seeing as I was much more interested in soaking in on his presence than paying attention to what was being said. But I had vague memories of him talking about a woman that had hounded him for quite some time.

We had had no more attacks by the Huns, but the scouts had reported groups of people moving in the far north. I knew the Huns were nomads, so I didn't want to read too much into it, but what kept me on edge was the fact that nobody had noticed any of that movement in the past years. So, either they were finally moving away elsewhere, or troops were being mobilized to the south.
