"Not yet, but you sure do smell like one" lilac gives a smug response.
Lilac Ash is the girl you would never want to be friends with. Talk about complete attitude adjustment, she is literally the meanest person on earth.
Her lilac hair matches her name and although she appears dumb she isn't. A characteristic beauty mark is placed on the right side of her upper lip and a sharp nose anchors her face.
As usual, she adorns herself with the most expensive jewellery, make up and clothes. Very rich and spoiled if you ask me. Most popular girl in school if I forgot to mention. Every girl knows her and wishes to be her, and every guy wishes to date her. Her figure is rather slender with little signs of development and her height the same as Debbie's.
In conclusion, she is the perfect highschool villain.
"That doesn't mean you should spray your wack perfume all over me!!!" I cough repeatedly as the scent violates my nostrils and tears forced out of my eyes because of its concentration.
"Lilac this is a new term and there's nothing new about you" Debbie hands me some tissue and I wipe my eyes clean and blow my nose with it.
"Seems like your glasses doesn't let you see the one thousand new things about me" Lilac dots on herself,
"Like the fact that your nose is bigger than your brain now" my words receive a few snickers from the new kids and Lilac becomes flustered due to embarrassment. She angrily storms over to her seat which is at the front row where the most attention Is paid.
Debbie tries to hide her hysterical laughter but fails doing so, "her nose is bigger now"
"Apparently that's the only thing that's growing" I chided which earned fits of laughter from the rest. Debbie nudges my arm telling me not be so mean on the first day.
She is right, I should not let Lilac spoil my mood.
Mrs Brown walks in with a smile and we all greet her.
My Arts teacher Mrs Brown is one of a kind. She always knows how to hook you with interesting literature while getting you to actually understand it.
A graceful full cotton white dress laced with golden stripes at the waist and hem of the dress complements her slender yet enticing physique. Her fuzzy brown hair is tied in a bun with two strands dangling in front of her face, a single golden hairpin holding it all together. Her make up very light but captivating, her full lips pursed in a smile and a facial birth mark located near her right eye makes her appearance all so heavenly.
"I hope we all enjoyed our break" she's always so concerned about us and never forgets to ask if we're alright, "where's Eris?" She looks around the class and notices my left hand waving at her, she chuckles at my gesture and puts her bag down.
I'm her favourite.
"Okay everyone, this is a new term and I see we have new faces. So why don't y'all come up and Introduce yourselves" she gestures to the front of the class with a genuine smile. Most were shy but managed a decent introduction.
And once that was done, time for class.
"Okay guys, for the whole term we will be discussing some genres of literature" we all pay attention and jot down the things she says,
"And we will be starting with my favourite." She clasps her hands together, we all look up to see what she has to say next and like an open book, students familiar with Mrs Brown all chorus with her,
"Fantasy"
We all laugh with her and the new kids are enjoying the class already. She waves off a blush,
"You kids know me so well" her words make us coo and earns a fit of laughter from the new kids. Every one is getting along already.
"The book we will be studying for a few weeks is titled 'Into the world of fantasy' and I recommend y'all to get the book. You won't be able to put it down after the first page" she shows us the book and puts it on the desk. Her eyes glittering with excitement as she sways round the class, her movements even more graceful.
"First question of the day, do y'all believe in fantasy and mystical creatures?" Her voice filled with excitement and curiosity.
To her dismay nobody said anything.
She pouts and places her hands on her hips, "Are y'all telling me no one believes in the unnatural??" Her eyes scan the classroom for any hands signalling a yes and she finds a couple.
Debbie and mine inclusive.
"At least I have a few believers" her hint of sarcasm makes the class erupt with laughter.
"Mrs Brown, do mystical creatures really exist??" A new kid asks her with outmost curiosity. I really wanted to hear her answer.
"Why yes of course!" She beams,
"Why don't we see them if they truly exist??" Another student asks,
"Well that's because they don't want us to see them. They feel we'll exploit them which we obviously will so they stay hidden to protect themselves and us" she simply explains and now I'm really hooked.
"So you mean fairies exist?" A new kid asks,
"Yes" she beams.
"And ogres too??" Another asks,
"Yes" she beams even more.
"What about Angels? Do they exist too?"
"Yes. Those ones are the most common of all" Mrs Brown becomes the brightest person in the classroom. Some kids are still filled with doubt and others are interested in learning more, i am rather interested in the topic myself.
"I know it may sound crazy that's why we're treating it! Let's forget what science says and dive into the world of fantasy! Open your imagination and let it lead you into this mystery we call fantasy!" She sways her body in a magical manner,
"Mrs Brown" we all chorus her name resulting in laughter.
Class was rather interesting and my jotter is filled with knowledge. Everyone leaves the class and just as I am about to exit I remember something,
"Hey Mrs Brown how much is the new literature?" I tuck some of my locks behind my ear,
"It's seventy nine dollars sweetie" she smiles at me, "but you don't have to buy it" she reaches into her bag and brings out another copy of the book, "here this is for you" she hands me the book with so much love. My hands reach out to collect it,
"But Mrs Brown you didn't have to" my face is flustered and my heart skips a few beats.
Could someone be so kind?
"They didn't have change at the book store so I bought another copy for you" she flashes her award winning smile at me and my heart melts,
"Thank you so much ma'am. It means a lot" I hold the book close to my chest like a treasure, to me, it was a sign of love.
She waves it off and I take my leave. Classes come and go and I still can't get her smile off my mind. Her kind gestures always seem to hit me in the deepest of spots.
I wish I were her daughter.
A smile creeps up my lips as I reminisce all the memories I had with her. She's one of those people who don't deserve to cry or suffer.
I open my locker to put in some of my books and I sight Debbie coming back from geography class. With a new boy.
I place my hands on my hips like a 'not surprised' mother as I wait for her to bid her new 'friend' goodbye. She sights my gesture and laughs,
"His name is Bryan" she smiles dumbly and I shake my head at her.
A strange feeling overwhelms me and I feel dizzy for a hot minute. Debbie holds my hands and drags me all the way to the cafeteria for lunch. We take our usual seats after grabbing a plate of hot spaghetti and meatballs.
That's why I love Mondays and the lunch lady.
"Oh we forgot our cupcakes! Let me go get them" I stand up to get our forgotten, treasured dessert, chocolate flavoured cupcakes with vanilla mousse and sprinkles.
As I head back to our table my vision blurs and my entire being loses strength. My entire world spins and I lose the stamina to support myself upright.
I fall into someone's arms.
