"Um," I give my best smile with a full mouth then sigh in defeat, "actually" I swallow, "Mrs. Brown got me a copy" I give a nervous smile,
"Was that so hard to say?" She gives a deadpan expression,
"I didn't know how you would react," I say in defeat,
"Oh Eris you've known me for years now I ain't no Lilac" I choke on my laugh, "besides I told my dad to get two copies but since you have one it's cool. I'll send him a text to only get one" she fiddles with her phone.
Debbie is always so thoughtful. I wish I could do something nice for her. It hit me. A mental lightbulb right on my head. I'll do some research and talk to Mrs. Brown about it, she would be excited about it too.
Hitting two birds with one stone. Smooth Eris, smooth.
"Morning mosquito"
My eyes roll to the side,
"What do you want from me now?" I ask Lilac, the damn girl couldn't leave me alone for a day.
"If this is your breakfast then I wonder how your dinner must look like" she smirks at me. I notice two girls beside her with pink hair and similar features. They're twins and they're new.
"Here try it!" I shove the half-eaten sandwich towards her, "it's tastier than anything you can ever make!" My sarcastic enthusiasm makes Debbie laugh,
"Sorry, I don't eat things this cheap" she chides and her 'followers' snap their fingers and move their heads in an awkward manner which freaks me out. I thought that only happens in cartoons.
"Come on Lilac!" I say in a sing-song manner, "meat is good for the brain!" I wave the sandwich at her and I hear someone chuckle. My head turns to a boy who is hiding his smile with his hand,
"Come on Lilac just leave her alone," Daylon says still holding his laugh, I feel a strange aura overcome me as he stares towards our direction.
Lilac and her guinea pigs leave and I scoff at her, I look at Daylon and he flashes a smile at me. It hits me and I feel my heart thump,
"Looks like someone's rooting for you" Debbie whispers with a smug grin and playful eyes, I give an eye roll,
"Don't start this" I finish up my breakfast just when Mr. Brown, our maths teacher comes in.
He gives the class a small smile, "morning guys. You ready for maths?" Most students groan but Debbie is excited.
Mr. Brown is a tall man with a very masculine build. He has jet black hair, a moderate nose, and dazzlingly sea blue eyes. He's on a plain white top and blue jeans today which shows his rigid body.
He's the best maths teacher anyone could ask for. Most students are just lazy.
I bring out my pen and jotter and nod my head, maths is always fun. He makes it fun with jokes and puns only Debbie and I laugh at. I don't know why no one understands his sense of humor. Probably one of the new kids will find him funny.
He's a maths and science enthusiast and he sometimes doesn't understand why some students like Arts way more than maths. I remember the time he got into a heated argument with Mrs. Brown and they didn't speak to each other throughout the day but they made up after school hours.
I know because I saw them kissing. Let's keep that a secret.
Like a breeze maths class is over and everyone walks out the door. I gather up my things and I notice I hadn't touched my pineapple juice, I didn't feel like drinking it so I do the next best thing,
"Hey Mr. Brown I have some pineapple juice for you, I'm sure it's your favorite" I put it on the table,
"Thanks Eris. How did you know pineapple's my favorite?" He looks quizzical, almost trying to deduce how I knew with maths.
"I just had a feeling" I smile and head out the door,
"So sweet" he looks at the juice and smiles.
I open my locker and put in my books, I feel a bit dizzy for a moment then I shake it off,
"What is wrong with me?" I say to myself with my breathing hitching,
"Are you okay?"
I look up to those eyes again, those glowing emerald orbs that hold a familiarity I cannot explain. His golden locks imitate the sun, his voice is as cool as winter's kiss.
It was like he was an angel.
"Um yeah, thanks for yesterday" I nervously smile,
"Yeah no problem, I just wanted to make sure you're doing okay" he runs his fingers through his hair sheepishly, I guess he's shy too.
"Yeah" I manage an awkward laugh but why do I feel this way.
"You're very beautiful"
"What??"
"I said you're very beautiful"
My cheeks for the first time in a long time turn a noticeable shade of red, it is like I've heard those exact words from him. It felt so unreal.
"Is that the only thing you can notice about me?" I fold my arms across my chest which makes him chuckle,
"Don't be upset, I only said what's on my mind. No harm done now that it's out" he chuckles more, "besides if I go on you'll become a tomato. Don't want that now do we?" He laughs and my cheeks go a shade deeper,
"Why you—"
"Daylon there you are!" Lilac wraps her arm around his and gives me a menacing glare, "I've been looking all over for you"
"I just wanted to check if Eris was doing alright, she wasn't too well yesterday," he says and his body response reads discomfort.
"Aww how sweet" lilac coos. She attaches herself to him like a leech, "she better be fine because we have History in 10 minutes. Let's go so we don't get late" she drags him off to class.
I open my locker and get out my pen and jotter and head over to class. We have a separate classroom for History that's down the hall and I bet Debbie must've been there waiting for me. I slam the locker and run to class.
The bell rings and school is over. Debbie and I stride out of the building talking about how our classes went.
In a few minutes, I reach home after dropping her at her house. I knock and Cody opens the door his eyes beaming with excitement,
"Welcome home Eris" he embraces me and I return the gesture,
"How are you doing now?" I tussle his hair,
"I'm fine Eris" he squeezes my hand and pulls me inside closing the door behind us, "the doctor said I'll be able to go to school next week"
Unfortunately, Cody has a rare case of allergies and our family doctor said he shouldn't go to school for now but upon hearing the news I feel very happy. You should've seen him 3 weeks ago, he was literally a pufferfish.
"I'm happy to hear that. Soon you'll be able to see your friends again" I cup his cheeks,
"I can't wait either"
"Cody!! Can you keep an eye on Tyler for me?!" Mom yells from the kitchen,
"Sure mom!" He answers back and runs off to find his baby brother. I shake my head, greet my mom and go to my room to get some rest.
I can't stop thinking about Daylon. The scenario that happened between us felt so familiar. Like It had happened before. Like what we said to each other had been said previously at some point in time. I don't understand these strange feelings or why I even feel them. It makes no sense to me.
I slowly close my eyes to rest, my head already pounding.
