Chapter 89

When I pulled out the clothes for him I hadn't even thought about how'd he'd look in them.

The black jacket was buttoned in the middle and hugged his muscular body so well. His pale skin was glowing in the warm Christmas light and his beautiful eyes caught it in the most perfect way. His hair was styled so the silver strands weren't hanging in his eyes.

My mouth dropped open and I quickly shut it and tried to think of something to say.

"Raph, well don't you look dashing." I said. It was very true.

"And you look heavenly." His voice sounded so genuine and real that I didn't try to say that I didn't, this time he made me feel truly beautiful.

"Uh, well. Did you bring the cookies?" I said, remembering my cookies.

He held up the platter that he'd been holding with both his hands.

"Great!" I asked Josh if he wanted to show Raph where the treat table was, the boy agreed. He led Raph to the dining room and I followed. It made my heart swell to see Raph with kids. The day when he'd come to help at the daycare and he sat with Gordon, I just loved it.

I asked Josh if he wanted to go back and play, but he shook his head saying he wanted to stay with Raph.

"Hmm, you want to stay with Beta, eh?" I asked as I walked closer to the pair.

"Well, he is a pretty fun guy to be around."

I giggled. Then gave Raph kiss on the cheek, I left a little bit of lip gloss on his cheek and wiped it off with a napkin.

While I was trying to clean his face ha grabbed my hand gently and kissed my knuckles tenderly. My breath hitched at the warmth and affection in his eyes.

The evening passed smoothly, the parents had all left because their little ones needed to sleep. Me and Charm waved them off at the door. I still got a few rude looks but Jordan and Chloe, another mother, waved me off with smiles, and Jordan even gave me a hug.

I walked to a room where Raph was sitting on a couch chatting with a male Lycan.

My head was beginning to hurt from all of the mind links I was catching. I sat down next to him on the edge of the seat and massaged my temple.

I was hearing five different conversations at once, the one Raph was having and four others that were mind links.

I was about to get up and get a drink when I heard something that caught my interest. I opened my eyes and saw the two Lycans that were having the conversation. A really tall, broad shouldered young man and a slightly shorter guy with a rough beard and a red flannel shirt.

I focused in on their words, not looking at them and acting as though I was really listening to Raph.

-…She's a human, I heard she was unconscious for three days just because she didn't have food.-

My eyes widened and my mouth parted in shock.

-Beta hasn't even marked her, if they were really mates she'd be pregnant by now.-

The guy laughed, I could sense their disgust, -They really are the weakest race. She's not even pretty.-

A small gasp escaped my lips. I felt a warm, soft hand on my arm and looked up to see Raph looking at me with concern.

"You okay?" He asked.

I looked up at him, unsure of what to say. If I told him the truth he would punish those Lycans, but a part of me wanted them to be punished.

No, if there was one thing my parents taught me was to turn the other cheek.

I swallowed and sat up straighter, "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine."

He turned his head and looked at me doubtfully.

"Stuart, could you give me and my mate a minute."

-Look at that, he called her his mate, what a joke.-

I winced at the man's comment.

"Okay, tell me what's wrong." Raph said wrapping his arm around me.

I shook my head, "Nothing, I-I think,

I-I just had too much sugar." I smiled weakly.

-She can't even handle sugar, pathetic.-

I swallowed at his words. "I can too handle sugar!" I wanted to shoot back but knew that would be foolish.

I looked up and saw that Raph wasn't looking at me anymore, he was looking at the two Lycans.

And his gold eyes were angry.

-What did they do?- He asked, his grip around my shoulders tightening.

I squirmed and he loosened his arm and looked at me apologetically.

"Sorry." He said.

-Did Beta just apologize for hurting that patheti-

I couldn't let him finish that sentence.

I stood up and faced them, "Yes! Yes, he did, and if you don't believe it ask him, and maybe it did hurt, and maybe I was weak after not eating food for a week but that's the way I am, humans need food to function!I wonder what would happen if you starved a Lycan!"

I rushed out of the room fuming and hugging my shoulders.

What did I just do?

~~~~~~~~
Raphael looked at the two male Lycans in silent rage.
The elder, he knew well, John, a very experienced warrior. And the younger he was not as well acquainted with, he believed his name was Ryan but he couldn't be sure, and he was a hunter, you could tell as much from his size.
He stood and faced the two shocked Lycans.
Raph had been worried about Brooke when she sat down and put her two fingers to her temple, her eyes shut. But he'd focused on his conversation with Stuart. He'd turned when he'd heard a small gasp come out of her lips, her eyes were wide and held a mix of emotions, the most prominent being confusion and hurt.
He'd asked her what was wrong and she kept refusing to answer. He watched as she winced and swallowed uncomfortably, he noticed she kept glancing out of the corner of her eye in the direction of the two Lycans, who when he looked close enough he could see that their eyes were glazed over.
'Were they saying something about her?' He wondered and his gaze hardened.
-What did they do?- He asked.
He felt her squirm in his arms and realized that he'd tightened his grip on her.
He immediately apologized, and she got up hurriedly, but instead of yelling at him she began yelling at the two Lycans who just stood there shocked.
Raphael was now standing in front of those two, his hands behind his back and his face smouldering with anger.
