Chapter 140

A few weeks passed and so did Valentine's Day, we couldn't really do anything other than spend our whole day together as usual, I made a special cinnamon roll breakfast, I think Raph really likes the flavour cinnamon.

For lunch we had his favourite, my deluxe Kraft dinner, I don't think it's his favourite but who knows, he really likes it anyway. For dinner we ordered take out from the Italian restaurant we went to for my birthday last year. It was great, less warm than it could've been but still tasted amazing.

Raph said that as soon as he was able to walk he would take me to a special place. I was excited for that. He's never had a lot of opinions on things and I'm really happy that he's got all of these favourite things.

He also said that he'll teach me archery so I can defend myself. I smiled when he told me that, it's not like I'll be carrying around a bow and arrow everywhere I go but it's the thought that counts.

It was February twenty-fifth and I had decided not to think about the fact that El-kor might bring that girl to the pack soon.

I was so torn. I felt so sorry for the girl, had she been hurt? She was most likely hurt but was it some sort of trap. I rested my head on the steering wheel. I wanted this to be over.

I sighed and took a deep breath, "It's okay."

"Ah!" I yelped and bit my finger looking at the grotesque figure in front of me. He wasn't swirling in smoke and was just a dark skeleton with skin-like canvas stretched across the bones.

{Hello.} He drawled.

{E-El-kor.} I stuttered. I could tell it was him from his milky white eyes and his voice.

{Have you done as I asked?} He said as he walked towards the car door.

{As in not told anyone? Yes, yes I have.} I felt sick.

{Excellent. Now, would you mind stepping out? I have something I'd like to tell you in person.}

I stepped out of the car into our garage.

El-kor leaned down from his scary eight feet height and whispered next to my ear, "She's here." And just like that he was gone.

I blinked and thought that maybe I'd imagined the whole thing but I had a sinking feeling that I hadn't.

-Raph.- I said feeling sick and horrible.

-Yes?- He answered. So happy, I noticed.

-Don't answer your phone. Just for the next couple seconds. Please for me?- I asked holding back the tears, I didn't want him to answer his phone because the gate guard might call him and tell him about the situation there before I can get there.

This was what it was like to betray your mate. I took a shaky breath.

-Okay. Why?- He asked.

-Because, I'll explain it soon.- I sighed then climbed back into the car, -I love you.-

-Love you too, you going back out?- He asked.

-Yeah, be back soon.- I cut the channel and drove back out onto the road.

The guard at the gate to the three houses gave me a weird look but he let me through. I drove along the small roads and back to the main gate. No channels, it was dead.

I drove slowly as I approached, the gates were still closed. Just as I reached them the car stopped.

I took a deep breath. I felt like I was in a horror movie.

I stepped out of the car and stood behind the door. Which only came to my chest, the door came to Raph's midwaist.

I sighed thinking about him. 'It will all be fine. I didn't tell him, he isn't dead and that's the bright side of things.' I told myself.

I closed my eyes and rubbed my face.

"Okay, just do this." I ordered myself and I walked forward unhindered.

But before me on the other side of the gates, a blonde girl appeared, her clawed hands wrapped around the bars and her yellow eyes staring at me menacingly. A jagged pink scar running down the side of her face.

And not yellow eyes like Duma's, no, these were different. They were another kind of animal.

I could sense a channel from her but it was more complicated, like there were multiple channels but they only had one port.

I got really bad vibes almost immediately.

"Hello." I said.

She bent her head forward and hissed at me.

I stepped back, "Okay," I licked my lips, "Did El-kor send you?"

She jumped against the bars and caused them to clang loudly.

I jumped back.

"I'm gonna open these but you can't kill me." I said as I walked to the gatehouse, "Understood?" I asked.

She relaxed and tilted her head creepily then nodded.

I swallowed, 'At least I told him that I loved him.' I thought as I pressed the button.

I turned and she was right there, her face stretched into a horrifying smile. I wanted to curl into a ball and hide behind Raph. But he wasn't there.

"Hi, are you-"

Her hands moved lightning fast and wrapped around my neck.

'Holy fricking hell.' Was my first thought then, 'What was I going to do?'

I decided to open her channel.

Her hands left my neck and I stood resting my arm against the wall for support. I caught my breath while the black spots disappeared.

"How can you do that? Only Elves can do that?" She asked, she had a slight growl to her voice, she sounded young.

My eyebrows drew together in confusion, "Speak in your mind?" I asked.

She nodded.

"It's called mind linking. Lycans can do it, Shapeshifters can do it, Elves have a certain way of doing it." I explained.

She sniffed, her nose high in the air, "You're not any of them, you're just a human."

I nodded, "Yes I am. It's called a gift." But with all of the things I've been through because of my gift, it does feel more like a curse.

She regarded me with her strange yellow eyes.

"Do you know why you're here?" I asked, breaking the silence.

She looked up at me and that smile returned, it looked maniacal, "Of course."

She strolled around until she was standing by the doorway, "I'm your help, in the upcoming war."
