Ugly Friends

Evo's POV

"Psychopath."

While eating pizza, Kaycee turned to face me. "He is. But we haven't had a case like that with Bella yet."

"There is no psychopath like this in our country."

"In the US, I had such an encounter, but they removed me from the team because it was too dangerous. They assigned me a less serious murder case instead." Kaycee said. "Aside from that, they also know I'm leaving," she smirked.

As her mind wandered, I stared at her. Kaycee appears to be content and well-versed in handling murder cases. They're envious because they've been doing this for a long time. It means they have been using their abilities for a long time.

"Can I ask?"

Kaycee turned to me. "Sure, what is it?"

"Aren't you and Bella afraid of dead bodies?"

"Why, are you there? Are you scared?"

I smirked. "I can't say I'm afraid, but I just can't bear to look at the blood or wounds."

"Evo, if you want to be a detective, you must have a strong stomach. As we have seen in documentaries, not all murders are clean; others are brutal. You must examine the body if you want to know the truth." Kaycee said. "Your ability won't work all the time. I have experienced that, and I almost killed myself."

"Now I'm curious."

Kaycee smiled. "I want to tell you, but that was the worst thing that happened to me."

"Okay, I understand," I said, then I turned to the window. The blinds are still closed. "It looks like the rain hasn't stopped outside."

"You can stay here," Kaycee said. I glanced at her. "It's late, and it's raining heavily."

I looked at my wristwatch. It was late, and it was still raining heavily outside. It may be okay for me to sleep here. We are another team of two women who are stronger than others believe.

"There are only two rooms upstairs. I'm the one using the guest room. Is it okay if we share the same bed?"

I turned to Kaycee later, and she giggled. "Just kidding. Is it okay for you to sleep on the sofa? It's a sofa bed, so you'll be comfortable."

"Okay."

"I'll get you pillows and blankets in a moment."

I nodded, and Kaycee immediately ran up the stairs. I stood up and put the mess on the table. I threw the mess in the trash and put the leftover food and beer in the fridge.

"Evo!"

I turned to the second floor, and Kaycee was standing there. The things floated in the air, and she smiled at me.

"Are you good at catching?"

"What?"

I was surprised when things suddenly flew before me and hit my face. I heard Kaycee's giggle.

"There's a toothbrush in the drawer; you might want it," she says. "I'm going to bathe upstairs."

"Okay," I said, smiling.

Kaycee waved her hand, and the sound of locked windows and doors filled my ears. Even the noise from the gate was the same.

"Goodnight, Evo."

I smiled a little. "Goodnight, Five."

After I cleaned myself, I stared at the sofa. I watched as it transformed into a bed. I peeked underneath and noticed a hook, so I pulled it out. A few moments later, I was lying on the bed.

It was raining heavily that night, and the motorcycle was running fast. I was wet from the rain and didn't wear a helmet.

"He is a liar. He is a killer." I said it again and again.

The rainwater ran down my face, so I wiped it with my hand several times. After a while, the motorcycle started to speed up, and I immediately used the brake, but it didn't work.

"What's happening? Why won't the brake work?"

I felt panic even though I changed the gear, but its speed didn't vary. I was so nervous that I was unable to control the motorcycle due to overwhelming fear until a light suddenly appeared in my eyes.

I sat on the bed and immediately gasped for air. I was out of breath, sweaty, and exhausted—a terrible dream. I immediately combed my sweat-drenched hair. Despite the lack of heat, my sweat drenches me. I turned to the side of the sofa bed. I remembered that I was not in my room. There was no jug next to the bed, so I blew air. It's been a long time since I had this nightmare. Only in my dreams do I remember everything, but it's still not enough.

I stood up and walked towards the kitchen with my head down and holding the back of my head. I blew out the air again.

"Nightmare?"

I was surprised to see Bella standing by the table, pouring water into a glass. I was legitimately nervous at that moment. I didn't notice her immediately because the kitchen was quite dark, and I couldn't hear her thoughts because my ability wasn't working with her.

She smirked. "When it comes to me, you're always surprised. Do I look like a surprise to you?"

"Yes, you are," I said.

"Really? I didn't expect that." She drank water, and I watched her.

"Nightmares?" I asked. Bella just glanced at me. "Only those who are hot due to the weather and those who have bad dreams are present, so which one are you in?"

Bella frowned again. "I'm going up. Put the jug back in the fridge when you're done."

Bella quickly turned her back on me. "Aren't you angry because I slept at your house?"

"If Kaycee has already made a decision, does my opinion have anything to do with my household? I should've just made her a nanny." Bella spoke, then walked away without even glancing back at me.

I smiled.

The following day, I heard a loud banging on the door. I grimaced, slowly opened my eyes, and took a quick look around. I took a deep breath and scratched my head. Outside, the knocking continued. I instantly rose, walked to the door, and opened it.

"Why did you take so long to open the door? What the heck?" Sir Eduard was surprised to see me open the door. He checked me over from head to toe. I was only staring at Eduard when he seized a revolver from his side and aimed it at me.

"Whoa, Sir Eduard, take it easy," I responded, raising both hands.

"What are you doing here, Evo?"

"Um, sleepover?"

"What?"

"Uncle, did you bring Pandesal?"

Sir Eduard and I turned towards the staircase. Bella and Kaycee were going downstairs, and they appeared to have had a bath. Sir Eduard scowled at the woman's lack of response.

"What is Evo doing here?" Edward asked. "Why is there a man here?"

Bella approached us and took Sir Eduard's paper bag. "You're a man too, and you're always here," Bella said, walking towards the kitchen.

"Good morning, uncle!" Kaycee said she was smiling.

"Uncle, do you want it with margarine?" Bella asked without glancing back at us.

Sir Eduard grimaced and placed the gun on his side. "Margarine goes well with coffee," Kaycee said.

Sir Eduard blew some air. "Okay." Sir Eduard stared back at me. "Why don't you tell me what you're doing here?"

"Sleepover," I replied as I approached the sofa. I folded the blanket and neatly laid it on the pillow.

"Slept? At the girl's house?" Eduard cocked his brows.

"Do you drink coffee, Montenegro?" Without looking at me, Bella said, "Do you drink coffee, Montenegro?" Kaycee was busy cooking.

"Yes, is there a latte?" Evo asked, smiling.

Bella's POV

Uncle took a deep breath. He took another drink of coffee.

"Are you sure you're going to visit Yumi?" Uncle Eduard inquired.

"Are you ready to face her again?" Kaycee asked, setting the platter of cooked eggs and hotdogs on the table.

On a platter, I pre-heat the pandesal, then add margarine. Evo didn't speak. He just looked at us. I don't know, but I feel like he is observing us.

"After eating, you can go home. Your family would assume we kidnapped you," Bella said.

Evo frowned. "Your house is so huge. I wonder why you had to sleep in another house," Uncle Edward said.

"There are times when the big house isn't nice either, sir," Evo said.

Uncle Eduard frowned, said nothing, and just kept eating. Evo gave Bella a sideways glance.

Evo's POV

"Where did you come from, brother?"

They were all shocked to see me arrive at the front door. I was wearing the same clothes.

"What happened, son?" Mom asked. "Why are you wearing the same clothes? I mean, that's what you wore yesterday, right?"

"I slept with friends," I said. "When I told them I was alone here last night, they picked me up. I apologize if my actions caused you any concern."

"That's okay, son. Next time, please answer your phone or contact us to let us know. So we don't worry." Mom said.

"Okay, Mom. I'll take a shower. I've already had breakfast." As I turned my back on them, I said.

"Do you think he has a girlfriend?" I heard my dad ask.

"What's the problem if he has a girlfriend? That's only natural because your son is a boy." I heard Mom giggle.

I just smiled and ignored them.

I sat back in front of my drawing table and resumed drawing. I gripped the pencil and T-square while glancing at the tracing paper.

"Why didn't you call me last night, huh?" Andrew sat on the side of the bed, staring at me.

"I'm in a hurry, and I'm going to skip it."

I grinned and swiveled the chair to face Andrew. "Do you know how wonderful I slept last night? I woke up a bit early, but I wasn't awake until I came home."

"Where did you come from, and where did you stay?"

I wanted to tell my cousin I was at Kaycee and Bella Sebastian's house, but I couldn't because I am part of the team.

"At my new friend's place," I explained.

"Do you have new friends?"

"Yeah!" I grinned. "They have an ugly snout, a muzzle, rough skin, and a huge physique; they also look like monkeys."

Andrew frowned as if he could imagine what I was telling him. He couldn't believe that someone like that existed. What I was saying looked scary to him—like an ogre.

"When did you acquire so many friends?"

"Just lately, and they're charming to me."

Andrew smirked at what I said. In contrast, I couldn't stop smiling.

'She's cute.'
