CHAPTER SEVEN
Every time joy decided to face her nightmares head on, she was thrown ten steps backwards. she had become a shadow of her previous self. isolated, abnormally silent, sickly and extremely thin. it was funny how one so vivacious could turn into such a despicable sight in a snap of a finger. people began to lose interest in her slowly by slowly. this was a welcome relief for her. however some could not stop digging into the cause of such a drastic turn of events thus she could hear distant whispers in the corridors as she walked alone. critiquing eyes following her around as if she were a prey.
she was completely exhausted she didn't want to fight because she might make everything worse than it already was.
being sickly often, she decided to make a stop at one of the chemists on her way to school. she explained how she was feeling and the shock was on her. according to the attendant she was displaying signs of pregnancy. nausea, tiredness, moodiness and loss of appetite.
never in her wildest dreams had she even imagined herself in that manner. in another life she would have laughed at the attendant for making such a joke, but the news had hit her hard. maybe it was a poor judgment. she crossed her fingers tightly and hopped nothing as such was happening to her. she however bought a test kit just to make sure it was a lie.
she then realized that she had actually missed her period. her heart raced wildly. it was approximately two months after the actual ordeal. she had managed to avert confrontations and drama in campus and retracted to the farthest corner in her classes. exams were fast approaching and she had to try and concentrate somehow in class.
her being uncomfortable became a hindrance to her studies. she had to be sure of her status in order to prevent such bad omens.
she took her time one day and braved her curiosity. she took the test kits and went to the washroom. she sat there at the toilet seat contemplating on what might be and possibility of finding out the terrible truth.
the fact that exams were fast approaching didn't do any justice for her at all. but against all odds she had to prepare for it.
she came out thirty minutes later, looking paler and famished. she had the result tightly in her palms. she placed she closed her door and went to sit on her bed before she looked at it.
two clear stripes. she gasped at it. she was actually very much pregnant. with a child whose father she didn't know. she let the kit to fall down as she rose from her sitting position to pace the room. this was definitely the end of her.
