Chapter 5: Sleeping together

When Amy started getting along with people around her other than just Han and Seo, something unexpected happened. It was the lunchtime and Amy was enjoying the winter sun on the rooftop, a day when the city witnessed a massive accident and whole hospital turned into a chaos. Amy's curious antenna went up compelling her to look for the cause of this atypical situation in the hospital. She saw a lot of emergency van rushing to the hospital. Everyone were rushing in panic, some freaking out, some anxious and distressed. From above it was like an unclear scenery. When Amy came near the emergency room, what she saw, terrified her completely. She saw too many people with bloods on their body. They were wailing and moaning with an injured heart and traumatised mind.

When the sound and the situation became unbearable, Amy decides to leave the hospital with a determination to never return back.

Just when the situation inside the hospital came under control, Nurse Seo was informed that Amy is missing. Nurse Seo left with no option except informing Dr. Han, after searching nook and cranny of the hospital. Dr. Han, who was busy handling the patients, immediately gives Seo the order to look for CCTV footage and informs the same to the security incharge who is only allowed to follow Dr. Han's instructions. Seo started tracking Amy on the footage and saw Amy walking out of the hospital. Right at that moment Han enters the security room after giving quick instructions to every Doctor and nurses to stay on alert and do their best as a team. Dr. Han noticed that it's been three hours since Amy exited from the hospital. It's now freezing cold outside and she has only one jersey apart from the hospital gown on her. Han frantically started searching for her. Luckily, within ten minutes, he was able to find Amy, walking on the streets. He walked out of his car and immediately put his overcoat on her.

Han: What are you doing here? Everyone is worried about you. Let's go back, ok. ( He grabbed her hand and tried to put her inside the car.)

Amy: Leave me. (While shaking him off). I am searching my home. I want to go home. I don't want to live in the hospital anymore. It's scary. I'll never go there. Never ever.

Han takes a deep breath and asks politely: What happened?

Amy: I just want to go home.

Han: Suddenly. Why? Tell me exactly what happened. Why are you acting this way. You never complained before.

Amy: I am missing home. It's already been four months. I've been living in the hospital but nothing is improving. You said everything will be fine. I'll get the treatment and everything wil be back to normal. But, now I am done. I can't live in that scary place where everyone screams with blood on their bodies and all those cuts and tears. I can't handle it. Either you tell me where is my home or leave me. I'll find it by myself.

Han: Ok. I'll take you home. Get inside the car.

She agreed. They moved inside the car, but the car stopped at the hospital. He thought that he may be able to convince her once they reach the hospital but Amy starts infuriating and asks what are they doing here when he was supposed to take her home. He says that she needs to follow the discharge process before going home. But Amy is determined. She didn't step her feet out. Rather she asks him to go and get it done quickly and she'll wait inside the car. Dr. Han failed to convince her this time and asks nurse Seo to help him out. Seo came to the rescue, but Amy didn't budge. After all fail attempts, Han decides to bring her to his house where he lives alone. This is the only option left for him. Amy was overjoyed with excitement on seeing her home. The moment they enters, she starts checking everything. Although Han was a lot nervous to bring Amy to his house, his tension vanishes and he smiles looking how happy she is. Actually, he hasn't yet realised one fact. His heart flutters on Amy's smile.

Amy, after taking complete tour of the house, bombarded at Han with questions. "Why she couldn't recognise her house when he said that even she lost her memory she will be able to recognise or relate with things that are familiar? Why it is empty? Does she live here alone? Where is her family? and more..."

To calm her down Dr. Han tells her a story that he came up with while driving her home. He tells her that its his house where she used to live as a tenant. Infact, he don't know where she is from and where is her family. He just know that she came here to work and needed a house to live. On the other hand, he wanted a person to take care of his house since being a workaholic made it difficult for him to take care of the house single handedly.

Amy: So you don't know my family. I thought I'll meet them here. Now I understand, why they never came to meet me and why you stopped me from asking questions about them. What should I do? Will I never find my family? How can I inform them about me? They must be searching for me.

She looks in his eyes for answers. Dr. Han explains her all the effort he made to search for her family but couldn't find any clue to help her out. He advices her to stay strong like she always do and hope for the best. Since she has no choice, she stops brooding and asks where her room is. He takes her to the guest room and tells her that she got in that accident before she could move in and therefore she cannot find her belongings here. He puts her bag, he brought from the hospital, inside her room and requests her to change for shopping. She looked quite in despair when Han left the room saying that he will wait outside. She changes cloth and comes out with a gloomy face. He takes her to the mall and asks her opinion while shopping and tries to cheer her up but she seemed uninterested. After buying her essentials, they head on to shop for some clothes. Dr. Han chooses some clothes for Amy to try on but Amy's attention was at a girl who was begging her mother to buy her stuffs. Dr. Han calls Amy to try the clothes he picked. She silently takes it and goes to the changing room. Dr. Han waits outside for ten minutes and when she didn't came out, he decides to go in. When he was about to knock at the door, he heard Amy crying. Inside the fitting room, Amy was shattered with the thought that she doesn't even know who her mother is. She misses her deeply and cries her heart out. Han heard her crying for the first time and felt the pain she is going through. He got hurt and tears started falling out his eyes but its time to handle Amy, so with heavy heart he wioes hus tears and knocks at the door and calls her. Amy, on finding that Han is at the door, instantly stops sobbing and wipes her tears and comes out without trying any outfit. Dr. Han asks her, with a smiling face, which dress she liked and she hands him all in her hand. He asks if he should buy all but no response came. After done shopping, he went in a halal restaurant for dinner and orders food. Food arrived but Amy is quiet, isolated, sitting idle, not having a single bite, all brooding inside in her grief. When Han had it enough, he starts asking what is the matter. Atleast she should speak out for him to understand or eat something, else she may ruin her health. At this point she bursts herself out.

Amy (crying): So what? It doesn't matter. I don't want to live. I've no future. I am doomed. I don't know who I am, where my family is. Family, home, memory, I've nothing. I have no reason to live then why I am alive. You told me that I lost my memory in a car accident. Tell me, who was that person? What wrong I did to him that he ruined me like this? If he wanted to kill me, he better had done it properly. Why he ran after making me a handicap. Not only this, I am upset with you too, who saved me. It would be better if I had died. Who told you to save me? Why you did this to me , why?

Dr. Han tries to console her by hugging but she pushes him away. He keeps apologising for his mistakes but Amy is not listening. She remains in the doldrums and keep repeating that she won't listen anymore, that she will die. She says that her life has already came to an end, that she is already a dead person. She's not gonna live anymore to which Dr Han shakes her hard and begs her to come to her senses. She becomes silent. Han then takes her hand and places it on his heart and tells Amy to feel its beat. He says to her that it is the sign of being alive. He then turns her hand to her heart and asks if it is beating or not. If its beating, then how can she say that she is dead.

Dr Han: You are alive, surviving, and one day I  am sure you will thrive. You are a strong girl. You have already proven it, so don't give up here. I am there for you, you are not alone. Eventhough you feel you have nothing today, you have me. I am your family and I love you and I will never leave you alone. Just stay strong. I promise I will help you out. Believe me, believe yourself, please. Hmm.

Saying this he hugs her and she calms down. They finally had dinner and comes back home. Amy had her heads down and didn't look up, the whole time Han was driving.

Amy took shower and changes to night clothes and just when she was about to go to Han, he enters her room with medicines. Once she took the medicine, Han helps her to sleep and stood up to leave after saying goodnight. However, Amy grabs his hand and implore him to not leave her. She insists him to sleep with her on this large bed and not leave her hand because she is too afraid to be alone. Han couldn't refuse her plead and agrees reluctantly. When Han grabs one side of the blanket, Amy snatches it instantly saying its her and he should bring his blanket if he needs one. Han felt embarrassed by her reaction and runs off to his room. He smacks his head on coming to his room, and reminds himself to use his brain. He ought to have this much sense not to use same blanket. How dare he try to use the same blanket, what he was thinking while doing that. He must had brought his blanket even before Amy suggested it. He may have confessed his love but Amy is too naive to understand it yet. She is still a child who needs extra care and nothing more than that. He enters her room with his blanket. Amy hold Han's hand to sleep and while patting her shoulder Han felt asleep eventually.
