A black sedan pulled in front of Chevalier's penthouse near two men in black suits who had been patiently waiting for its arrival.
The moment the car engine stopped running two men in suits stepped out of the front seats and then stood beside the back door waiting for the occupant to give them a sign to open the door.
In the back seat sat a man, the person they had been waiting for. He sat calmly cross-legged despite seeing through the tilted glass the men were still waiting for him. He didn't come with good news and that bordered him more.
"Keep searching, there must be something that sells his identity," Jacques said then clicked on the Bluetooth he had on his right ear.
He heaved a sigh closing his eyes. The thought of a higher power threatening the life of his boss sends shivers down his spine.
He just wants to figure out who these people are so they can take back their power over the city.
"Door." He said. Immediately one of the men standing opened the door.
His eyes immediately met Vance's stoic stares. It made him smirk as stepped out of the car one foot at a time.
Vance took a pace forward while Jacques stood still his hand in his coat pocket.
"Jacques, we've been waiting for your arrival. Don is about to reach the end of his rope with you."
"And I'm hanging by that rope. I'll speak to Don."
Jacques is the most reliable strength in controlling the chevalier mafia society.
He used to be the top dog in town but now he is aware there are way bigger dogs hovering behind shadows while controlling the city, he is not so confident anymore. Especially because their leader is scared to death of his life and neither of them has a clue about who Silver is or useful information about the people who kidnapped Mr Chevalier.
It's like the Mafia society is operating in blindfolds.
The rest of the men waited outside Chevalier's spacious home office while Vance and Jacque went in.
Claude was standing near a large table at the end of his office staring at the city's model which was created on the table.
His men have searched every single area, yet no clue who these people are that are taking away his power and most probably his life.
"Good tidings Jacques," Claude said out loud after hearing footsteps.
"I'm afraid not Don," Jacques replied in the same tone.
Claude's eyes widened in shock. He knew Jacque would come with bad news, but hearing it stung his stomach. He felt an urge to spit his disgust on Jacques's face.
"Five hours Jacque and you dare come to tell me you can't get a hold of one man's name."
"My men went undercover...."
"I don't give a damn, it's your job to get me results. Positive results."
"Don if I may?" Vance said.
"What?"
"Your daughter."
Claude turned to look at Vance in the eye. Vance gulped dryly seeing the anger in his boss's eyes.
"You dare bring her into this,"
"With all due respect Don, he has a point, your daughter has a business relationship with Silver. She's the best chance we have to find out more about these people. I have some details about a baker that might be of use to us but with the time we have left, we should get the answer from her."
Claude was quiet for a long time. He didn't realize the answer he had been looking for was right under his nose.
"What if she doesn't know."
Jacques smirked. "Then we find the baker."
"Will, bring my daughter to me."
One of the men among the three men standing at the door heard through his Bluetooth immediately he left to find Claude's daughter.
Getting lost in her workspace is one of the best ways Clarice distracts herself from her obsession with Matteo and his closeness to a lowlife baker he only just met.
If Jem is smart enough to take her deal she'll stop at nothing to ensure that they never see each other again.
Matteo belongs to her whether he likes it or not, she loves him first. He has to reciprocate the feeling, he needs to. She can't just bear losing a man like him.
She might be sitting in front of her laptop, going over her data but the truth is she has no idea what she's doing there. Her mind wasn't distracted by work at all, Daisy bluntly telling her that she had lost cracked her heart. It got to her. She needs to find a way to make sure that doesn't happen.
"Ms. McGrath,"
A male voice echoed in her head making her jerk a little nearly falling out of her seat. She held on to her chest, breathing heavily.
"William!"
"I'm sorry ma'am, your door was opened."
She wiped her face with her palm and heaved a long sigh just to catch her breath. Then she adjusted her seat and placed her hand on her desk to screen through the pile of paperwork.
"What do want William, I'm working."
"Your dad sent for you."
"Tell him I'm busy, I'll see him in the morning."
William took a step forward. "I'm sorry ma'am but it's urgent." He might not be a part of the discussion about finding Silver but he is aware his boss is scared to hell which means not finding Silver might lead to his death.
He can't imagine a sweet lady like Clarice losing her father like that.
Clarice looked at him stunned, it's been a while since she and Father had spoken. He barely ever has time for her. Now all of a sudden he wants to see her.
"Is everything alright?"
"I can't say,"
Clarice tried to think of a reason why her father would need her urgently at this hour, but she couldn't guess. He is too unpredictable for her to anticipate what he wants.
"Okay." She stood up immediately and left with him.
William stopped at his stand post while Clarice walked into the office. She was surprised to see her dad with his two most trusted allies.
It made her more curious as to why she was part of this meeting. Her father had never involved her with these men, what could be wrong?
"Clary,"
"Father," she kissed his cheek then sat beside him.
"Is everything alright?" she asked.
Chevalier smiled. "Normally I would say yes but in this case, it's different."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't take this the wrong way but it's about the deal you scored with Silver.
She doesn't remember telling him anything about her business with Silver, she never discussed work with him. That's mostly because they never really talk.
"How did you know?"
"Your father is a politician, of course, he knows everything."
She scoffs. "So what about the deal?"
She's not surprised, it just hurts that he'd rather stalk her than talk to her about work.
"What do you know about Silver."
"What? I don't understand, is there something wrong?"
"No, I just need to know who he is and everything else about him."
"Can we do this privately? Please."
Claude looked at his men who nodded before leaving the room.
"Dad, why are you asking about my business partner."
"My life is in danger, Clary, I need to know who he is, I'll make you understand soon but you have to help your old man."
"Okay. I don't know anything about him, just that he is a frequent in Heaven. He solely runs the Silver cooperation with an iron fist, I guess maybe it's because he is so young, he needs to be input power somehow."
"What is his real name."
"Matteo Valdez."
