Leonard's mind blanked. His thoughts moved as slow as a snail. This was a completely foreign situation to him, how could he know what to do? Looking at the strange creature, Leonard sent a greeting, "Hi, I come in peace?"
"*#(&^$A%T()%R$" The creature's voice was disturbing and unpleasant to listen to, grating the ears worse than chalk being slowly dragged across a blackboard. With that, it quickly moved it's two arms towards Leonard in a movement that shot out a fast greyish ball which constantly distorted the air around it as it moved.
"What!?" Leonard was shocked as he hurriedly attempted to move out of the way, but his left arm was hit!
"Aahh!" A deep pain resonated throughout his entire being. The pain wasn't coming from his arm, or anywhere in his body. It was hard to describe, but it was there. It was like pain coming from the very depths of one's soul.
Immediately, the whispers resonating through the air got louder, and more focused on him. Leonard had no time to care about the whispers, he began to run away as fast as he could!
"(*@#$^&()@_)#*" The strange being spoke out again as he shot out another strange orb. "Ah!" Leonard couldn't help but let out a yelp of fear as he looked behind himself as the orb was quickly getting closer and closer to him. "Hah!" Leonard threw himself to the side as hard as he could to dodge the orb, but when he looked back, the creature was floating across the air towards him at an incredible speed!
Leonard got up and kept running. He didn't know where he was going, everywhere he looked, it was all the same! Darkness.
"Aah…..aa..," Leonard ran as he dodged, quickly growing tired, and his despair grew. He had to do something, he couldn't keep going like this!
"*(#$^()*@#$)" The creature shot yet another orb, 'Now that he shot the orb he probably won't shoot another until that one is destroyed, this is my chance to strike!' Leonard thought to himself as the orb approached. As it was less than 3 feet away from him, he ran towards the orb, tracking its movements the best he could.
3 feet away…
2 feet away…
1 foot away…
"NOW!" Leonard yelled out as he weaved out the way of the orb, this time actually dodging it! He ran at full speed towards the creature and hurled the strongest punch he could at it.
Woosh
His fist never made contact. He was surprised his arm went right through the creature. He regained his footing and stared at the creature. It looked at him and responded with "(*@#$^&()@_)#*" again.
It shot another orb, but Leonard was too close to dodge. He had to take it straight to his face! The orb began charging towards him. Leonards life flashed before his eyes. He lived his whole life believing in the laws of nature. He was reminded of one rule that he had learned as a kid.
The orb was mere seconds from colluding with Leonards face when knew what to do
"With every action there is an equal and opposite reaction BITCH" He yelled as he swatted at the ball. The impact was strangely silent, but the orb felt heavy, a strong pressure was exerted on him as he was in contact with the ball.
"@*&$#()" The creature exclaimed as the orb was sent back to its sender. With this impact the world around him grew lighter and the creature grew more visible.
'Aha!' Leonard internally celebrated. "Take that, monster!" Leonard chuckled and stepped back from the disorientated creature. 'The creature and it's attacks weren't invincible, everything follows the basic laws of nature! Me being alive is proof of that!'
The creature began floating up and spread his arms out. This time, two orbs, one in each of his hands were summoned."(*@#$^&()@_)#*" it screamed louder than before. The two orbs shot out and were sent towards Leonard.
"Two of them! I barely dodged one!" Leonard gasped. 'Maybe the same plan will work…'
Leonard prepared to counter the attack and smack it back to the creature. Unlike before, the two orbs combined in the air and made a larger orb. Leonards heart skipped a beat, if this was more powerful than the small orb, this would really hurt if he tried hitting it. He ran out of the way and watched it crash into the ground.
Leonard stood in stance, waiting for the next orb attack, but it did not go as planned. Instead, the creature kept flying directly towards him! Leonard stood his ground, waiting for the perfect opportunity…Now! Leonard slammed his fist into the oncoming creature.
SMACK
'I knew it! It becoming more visible let me hit it!' Now I just need to beat the shit out of this thing!' Leonard celebrated in his head.
"@*&$#()" The creature garbled as it was hit. It slowly turned around with an extremely wide turn. Leonard observed this, 'It seems it's not very good at changing directions, I can use my agility as an advantage!' "(*@^$)@" Once more, it sent another black orb towards Leonard.
"Haah!" Leonard groaned as he backhanded the orb back
"&%^# "
"#^&$#"
"()#&$"
The being chanted three different things, as it sent out THREE flying black orbs, one flying to the left, middle, and right of Leonard. However, the ones on the left and right started curving towards Leonard.
"Well this can't be good!" Leonard was caught off guard by the creature's killer move! 'How can I escape this…' He couldn't figure it out! Suddenly, an idea came to his mind. 'This will be dangerous... But I don't have any time to think of any other plan!' With that, he once again rushed forwards, meeting the middle orb head on!
Leonard looked around him, the other two orbs were on route to hit him directly on both his sides. "Here goes nothing!" He reached out to the orb in front of him and tried grabbing it. Surprisingly, it stayed in his hand, but Leonard was in immense pain. Each second he was holding the orb felt like an eternity as the pain pulsated through his very being. Leonard looked to his side and the other orbs were closing in.
Assuming they would combine like how he saw them do earlier, Leonard prepared as he reached out his two hands to catch the other two. The hand that had an orb in it absorbed the other and grew in size as the two balls combined. His other hand grabbed the last orb and he brought his two hands together, where the small and big orb became one, giant, orb.
Immediately, the fog became extremely active moving around as the sound of static grew louder and louder!
"*($^"
"#*&$"
"#(*%&"
Leonard saw the creature floating straight towards him as it continuously shot more and more orbs at him, its body becoming more and more ethereal as it did!
Leonard was spooked! But he wouldn't give up. He kept the orb in front of him as a shield. As each orb hit his, they were absorbed and grew harder and harder for Leonard to keep control of it. The pain was unbearable but Leonard knew if he let go, the orb would be launched back into him!
The creature approached Leonard and started charging a big attack.
'This is the time!' Leonard thought as he used all the power he had to launch the orb at the creature.
"#(*%&-" It yelled out as its own attacks were sent back and collided with its body.
A deafening screech pierced throughout the whole void. Leonard covered his ears but the sound did not stop. He fell to his knees and closed his eyes.
…
Silence. Leonard opened his eyes. The world was no longer covered in black. He was moved to another bright white void room. "Another one!?" Leonard couldn't help but exclaim. "Where even am I?" However, he stopped this line of thinking. It was not time to think about where he was or what was happening. The events in the previous space clearly proved that this space was anything but friendly. He began to look around, unlike last time, this room was covered with things aside from an endless void.
"Clank!" Leonard hurriedly turned around to look at the source of the sound, before sighing in relief. It was not another enemy, but a table. 'A table…? Huh!' Closer inspection revealed several pieces of paper on top of the table, along with a quill.
'Let's see these papers…' Leonard grabbed the first paper. The top of the paper read out the name "Leonard," and the rest of the page was covered in runes. 'What are these papers?' Leonard felt that if he wanted to get out of this area, these pages would hold the answers.
"Ooh" Leonard couldn't help but let out a gasp of amazement as the runes on the paper started shifting before his very eyes, turning into a blur as it gradually spelled out the words in plain English. He immediately began to read.
"Change. It is one of the building blocks of existence. At every single moment, there is change. Heat, reactions, creation, and destruction. There is a little bit of change in every basic aspect that make up existence. After finishing reading the page on change, he quickly checked the rest of the pages. There was a page on Change, Passivity, Flow, Stability, Order, and Entropy.
He grabbed at the last page, but it was held in place firmly by the table. The top of the page read "Deduct". It had the symbols of all six properties he had previously looked up all lined up on the left edge, and on the right was a new symbol that looked like electricity! It read "Potential" below it.
Leonard grew a confused expression as he looked at the page. It wanted him to deduct potential? What, they wanted him to see which of the properties on the left made up "Potential"? How could such nonsense be done! Everything here was simply unscientific!
"Fine." Leonard sighed. Perhaps it was fine as long as his answer abided by the information previously presented to him.
His gaze grew determined. "I'll play by your rules. I'll use your own descriptions to make up a new one for "Potential!"
