Curiosity

"Relax I'll be fine." Noah gave Kyle a little shove toward the elevator. "Probably."

"Meet me tonight, my place." Kyle replied, "If you're not there by eight I'll assume I need to start hunting cats."

He turned and Lilly and I followed him to the elevator. Its doors opened and we entered. I glanced over and caught one last glimpse before they disappeared.

"Lame." Lilly sighed, "Here I was thinking joining at cat battle sounded so fun."

The doors opened and spat us out back into the same stadium. All around people were now exiting other doors. Most were wondering how they suddenly got off islands and away from sharks.

Interesting, I thought the cat was just going to kill off anyone else.

"Hey you guys are still alive too!" I noticed Ryan running toward us. "Any idea what happened? I was just about to destroy a humongous shark when suddenly I was in an elevator going up."

"No clue." I lied. "Maybe the cat picked whoever killed the first shark."

I continued walking and ignoring the rest of her babbling until I had a chance to ditch her and the rest of the people.

"Go on ahead, I'm going home for the night." I stepped away from Kyle and Ryan, Lilly had already gone her own way.

"What you aren't joining us for dinner?" Asked Ryan.

"Nope got plans." I replied.

"Did you get a boyfriend?" Ryan asked and I almost choked.

"What! No! Whatever gave you that idea?" I asked.

"You've been ditching me a lot lately, you definitely have a boyfriend." She replied.

"Okay fine." I replied and walked away.

I didn't need to hurt her feelings by saying I was avoiding her. There is just only so much of an overly talkative person that I can take in one day. Maybe I can ask her to talk the cats to death? Well either way if she assumes I have a secret boyfriend all the better.

I glanced back at Kyle, "Oh hey Winters, if you need help with that thing after eight let me know."

Then I slipped down a side alley and away from the crowds and news reporters by the stadium.

So much better. I was finally able to relax in the quiet. The giant flood of cats moving around had slowed. Here and there were a few stragglers running in one direction or another.

I had been gone for hours. I pulled up the social media feeds to search for info related to the cats. Interesting, there were all kinds of stories,

Help my cat is taking over the house!

Coexistence with your current pet

How to tame the beasts

My cat is missing, please help me find so I can talk with it.

We must kill them!

Has anyone seen my son? Our cat took him and called him a can opener!

Strange, some cats were still staying even with the looming threat of the planet being destroyed. Maybe they weren't as coordinated as I originally thought? Not that it mattered.

I crossed the diagonal street near my place and started to walk by an alley when I paused. A group of people were surrounding something with baseball bats. A mugging? I'm off duty now, it's really not my problem. I continued to walk when a whine like scream caught my attention and I glanced back again.

In a small gap between the muggers was a tiny little cat, barely out of it kitten phase. Dead next to it was a full grown cat why did it look familiar? Both were a bit unique with white fur and black spots. Normally I wouldn't care, even if it was a kitten, but something about the look in its eyes stopped me cold. It wasn't a normal look.

Those eyes were the same ones I had not too long ago, and sometimes still did.

Cold, calculating, angry at everything and the whole world, but also more they had that extra fire that came from something beyond revenge or hatred. The desire to change or destroy it all. Interesting. Just what are you wanting little cat, I kind of want to know now.

I let my interest get the better of me and walked over.

"Hey! Oh just a human, don't startle us like that-"

I slugged the guy in the face knocking him out and kicked the next one between the legs sending him to the ground in agony. By then the third was turning toward me in anger.

"It's a cat! We have permission to kill them now, what are you doing!" he swung a punch my way.

I blocked it. "Satisfying my curiosity." I replied as I slugged him over the head knocking him unconscious.

Then I stared at the tiny cat.

"So pipsqueak, why do you have that look in your eyes?"

The cat glared at me and didn't answer but it also didn't run off.

"What cat got your tongue?"

It tilted its head sideways.

"Oh can you guys not talk until a certain age or something? Well that makes this useless. Go on be on your way to wherever it is you're going."

I stood up and started to walk away but the little ball of fluff started to follow me.

"What the heck! Get lost! I hate cats!" I kicked it away being slightly gentle.

Gosh what was wrong with me today, was I showing mercy to a cat!?!?!

It picked itself back up and trotted after me again.

My gaze turned dark.

"I said get lost." A threatening tone entered my voice as I raised a foot again and this time thoroughly kicked it half way across the street.

Its little body rolled for a moment then jumped back up. The little guy was surprisingly durable.

"Wait!"

I paused and looked back. "So you can speak."

Its eyes burned brighter, "I need help."

"I'm not charity." I replied turning away again.

"You're right, I don't need help."

I paused and looked back, "Aren't you quick to change your mind."

It glared at me, "I need a tool, a partner."

"Oh and why would you need that?"

Its eyes burned holes into me and the surroundings.

"Because I want to destroy the world."

I wanted to laugh, "Yeah I think that's literally the goal all of you share right?"

The cat shook its head, "I mistranslated sorry. I want to destroy the worlds."

I raised an eyebrow, "More than just this one?"

"I don't care about this one, it can live. But the others, they have to go." His little eyes narrowed, "Or at least several of the cats on them have to go."

"And how you planning to do that?" I asked.

He paused as if thinking then a dead set determination appeared on his little face.

"I'm going to win the game." He replied then he stared at me, "I saw your footage earlier, you hate the cats for invading right? Team with me, lets destroy them together."

"Team with a cat to destroy cats, why would I team with a cat?"

He looked up at me with a glint in his eyes, "Because it's the only way you will ever be able to."

Ah I'd really done it now, I was clearly talking to a cat that had lost all its sense of rationality.
