Johnny heard the bedroom door open and shut as he stood behind the kitchen island. He paused, waiting to hear the sound of her approaching footsteps but there was nothing. He had prepared her a simple meal from scratch and was doing the final touches before switching off the stove and wiping his hands down with a paper towel. A minute passed, two. It was obvious where Navaya had gone. Without a thought, he walked over and pushed the door open even wider.
