Kage and Xuanyu: Tomb Raider
Light footfalls could be heard from a distance, Xuanyu kept the mystic herbs she gathered and without pause, flashed away from the clearing.
A month has passed since the Ancient God Tomb was discovered. Every force from the Heavenly Realm sent troops to find the Ancient God's inheritance and unearth the divine treasures within the tomb.
But Xuanyu was not there for the treasure or the inheritance, she was there for Kage.
Kage suffered injuries during the great war. Although he managed to break through to demi-god realm, his cultivation has been stalled. If Kage does not resolve the issue of his body his cultivation will slowly decline until his life force is snuffed.
Xuanyu refused to bow down to such fate. The news about the Ancient God Tomb spread when they were desperate for a cure. Kage was against venturing into the unknown tomb but Xuanyu cannot let go of the opportunity. While he was in seclusion, Xuanyu secretly set off and prayed that Kage would forgive her when she came back.
Xuanyu's entrance to the tomb proved to be fruitful. She managed to gather all the herbs needed to cure Kage's injuries. But when Xuanyu was about to withdraw, her presence was detected by her old enemies. She had to take the longer route to safety.
Unfortunately, while fending off unprecedented attacks, Xuanyu slipped and fell into an abyss. The miasma within was so thick it robbed her off of her consciousness. The last thing Xuanyu heard was Kage's desperate voice calling out her name.
When she regained consciousness, Xuanyu found herself by the mouth of a cave. Something within was calling out to her, exciting her blood.
As if hypnotized, Xuanyu stood up and stepped inside the cave. She walked through the caverns and winding paths until she reached the innermost chamber. There, Xuanyu found a skeleton sitting on a jadeite throne. Xuanyu unthinkingly reached out but before her fingers could touch the skeleton, she was yanked back into a warm embrace.
Kage accurately struck Xuanyu's acupuncture points and slowly infused her with internal energy. "You want to die?" He growled angrily shielding her from the skeleton on the throne.
He's been tracking her whereabouts for weeks and when he finally found her, Xuanyu fell off a seemingly bottomless cliff. In despair, Kage jumped off after her. If he'd been a step late, her soul would have been sucked out by the remnants of the malicious being sitting on the throne.
"I.." Xuanyu wanted to explain but seeing how enraged Kage was she felt choked up.
"How much heartache do I have to suffer until you're satisfied?"
Kage knew why Xuanyu came to the godforsaken place. If it had been him, he would have done the same for her. But he almost lost her today, twice. This transgression will not be easily forgiven.
"We are going home!" Kage grabbed Xuanyu's hand and proceeded to lead her away but Xuanyu held him back.
Seeing Kage's furious face, Xuanyu immediately explained. "This is what everyone is looking for," She motioned towards the room. "We're already here so…"
Kage was about to blow his top. He couldn't believe Xuanyu still had the energy to loot the tomb that almost took her life, twice! But looking at her expectant expression, he knew he would not deny her anything.
Kage sighed as he lightly waved his hand, keeping everything within the cavern on his interspatial ring, leaving only the skeleton sitting on the jadeite throne. He spied Xuanyu's covetous glare aimed towards the jadeite throne and hurriedly pulled her away.
"Don't even think about it!"
Xuanyu pouted, thinking it was a waste to leave the jadeite throne. But since they got everything else, she was satisfied.
It would be many months before they'd discover what sort of treasures they took from the Ancient God Tomb. Suffice to say, Xuanyu would not think of looting another tomb again. At least not for the next hundreds of years.
